This footage comes from a lodge a little bit south our La Finca lodge you’re used to seeing. Hundreds of White-Winged doves funnel into these orange orchards every season, and once you see it in person, it makes perfect sense why. Contact @kylemuntean for booking info. The trees provide shade, structure, and safe roosting, and the surrounding farmland gives the birds everything they need to feed and stage throughout the day. That combination makes these orchards one of the most consistent places to find White-Wings stacked up in big numbers. Of course, large numbers of doves can be tough on crops, which is why ranchers here are proactive about population management. We lease the land directly from them, helping protect their livelihood while giving our guests access to an incredible experience. It’s a win on both sides. The birds we take are brought back to the lodge for meals and the rest is donated back into the community. Nothing wasted. Everyone benefits. That’s how we like to do it.

While Eurasian Collared Doves are generally known for making a “coo” sound, Larry’s recent internet fame has gotten to his head, and he’s looking to switch things up! Donated to us over 25 years ago, Larry has lived at Butterfly Pavilion in our Wings of the Tropics Butterfly Conservatory ever since. Having lived among butterflies for most of his life, he sometimes displays some unique behaviors and enjoys listening to live classical music in the conservatory. Many of you have asked if Larry gets lonely. While Larry once had other bird friends, they have since passed from natural causes, and relocating him or introducing new birds to his space would cause him unnecessary stress. Because of that, our animal care team works diligently to monitor his wellbeing and make sure he has everything he needs. Let us know in the comments which of these sounds matches Larry's vibe best!
