ADJUDICATOR HOT TOPIC — Tricks in Dances 👀
As an adjudicator, I’m looking at the overall performance, not just the hardest skills in the routine.
I’m paying attention to:
• Technique
• Performance quality
• Musicality
• Control
• Connection to the choreography
A dancer who performs with confidence, intention, and clean execution will often stand out more than a routine packed with uncontrolled tricks.
Tricks can enhance a performance.
But they are not the reason a performance feels memorable.
The dancers that leave an impact are the ones who fully command the stage and make the audience feel something.
So if tricks aren’t your biggest strength, that’s okay.
Focus on the qualities that make YOU unique as a performer.
That’s what truly makes dancers stand out.

From the judges table, I want you to know this👇
We’re rooting for you. Always.
And the dancers that stand out are the ones who:
▪️Let their training fully translate to the stage
—not just executing skills, but showing control, clarity, and intention in every transition, pathway, and detail.
▪️Move with the music—not just to it
—understanding timing, accents, and phrasing so the movement feels connected, not placed on top.
▪️Perform in a way that draws us in
—committing to the moment, projecting beyond yourself, and making us feel something from start to finish.
You don’t need to do more…
you just need to bring more of you into what you’re already doing.
