🎶Old Skool Sundayz🌟 “(I Know) I’m Losing You” – The Temptations (1966)
🎶 “I know I’m losing you… though your love is fading…” 🎤💔✨
🎤 The Soul Classic That Turned Heartbreak Into Urgency
When The Temptations dropped “(I Know) I’m Losing You,” they leveled up their sound. Gone was the smooth sweetness of earlier hits — this was gritty, intense, and full of emotional tension.
Produced by Norman Whitfield for Motown Records, the track pushed Motown toward a harder, more driving soul sound. And David Ruffin? He owned that lead vocal with raw desperation you could feel in every note.
🔥 Backstory:
This marked a turning point for The Temptations, introducing a more psychedelic-leaning edge that would later define their late-’60s era. The pounding rhythm and call-and-response background vocals gave it that urgent, almost frantic energy.
🎬 Fun Facts:
✨ Peaked at No.1 on the Billboard R&B chart
✨ Later covered by Rare Earth in a rock-leaning version
✨ One of the early hits that shaped Motown’s move into edgier production styles
📊 Impact:
📈 Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100
🎶 Helped cement David Ruffin as one of Motown’s most powerful lead vocalists
💿 A blueprint for dramatic soul storytelling
💿 Release Year: 1966
🎼 Era: Mid-’60s Motown evolution
📈 Legacy: The ultimate “I can feel you slipping away” anthem.
🖤 Iconic Line:
> “Your love is fading… I can feel your love fading…”
Raw, urgent, and pure soul tension. 🎤🔥

Happy Birthday to the incomparable David Ruffin ❤️
January 18, 1941, June 1, 1991
Born in Whynot, Mississippi, David Ruffin became one of the most recognizable and emotionally powerful voices in soul music history. After early Detroit recordings under the name Little David Bush and working alongside Berry Gordy Sr. at the future Hitsville U.S.A., Ruffin’s path led him to The Temptations in 1964, where his voice helped define the group’s most celebrated era.
During the Temptations’ Classic Five period from 1964 to 1968, Ruffin led a historic run of recordings including My Girl, Ain’t Too Proud to Beg, Since I Lost My Baby, I Wish It Would Rain, and (I Know) I’m Losing You.
His raspy tenor brought a new emotional depth to Motown, earning admiration from fellow artists, including Marvin Gaye, who once said Ruffin’s voice carried a strength his own did not.
Beyond his vocals, Ruffin helped shape the group’s live presentation and visual identity, most notably through his signature glasses, which became part of his unmistakable image.
After leaving the group, he achieved solo success with Top 10 hits such as My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me) and Walk Away from Love.
Ranked among Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 with The Temptations, David Ruffin’s legacy remains etched into the foundation of soul music.
