Nitrox is often described as giving divers more bottom time, but the real reason comes down to nitrogen exposure and No Decompression Limits (NDL). Air contains about 79% nitrogen, while Nitrox blends contain less. Because there is less nitrogen in the breathing gas, the body absorbs nitrogen more slowly during the dive. Most dive computers account for this difference, which is why Nitrox often shows a longer NDL at recreational depths. But Nitrox introduces another limitation: oxygen exposure. As depth increases, the partial pressure of oxygen (PO₂) increases as well. If that pressure becomes too high, oxygen can become toxic. To manage this risk, every Nitrox mix has a Maximum Operating Depth (MOD). For example, Nitrox 32 has an MOD of about 111 ft / 34 m when using a PO₂ limit of 1.4 ATA. It’s also important to understand that NDL values are not universal numbers. Your dive computer calculates them using a specific decompression algorithm, and different computers may show different limits for the same dive. Conservatism settings and personal configurations can also influence the NDL displayed. Dive computers are excellent tools, but understanding how your computer works is just as important as the numbers it shows. Nitrox can extend dive time and reduce nitrogen loading—but only when divers respect the limits and dive within their training. Sound on - A Saturation Diver’s Watch Review in helium ​The Oceaneva 6000m Deep Explorer Series is an absolute tank. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ​I’m currently out in Qatar diving at around 65 meters, and while this watch is rated for depths way beyond where we’re at, I’d be more than happy to take it down to 280m if the opportunity came up. I’ve put it through some absolute abuse over the last couple of trips and it has held up brilliantly. ​Why it’s a 5/5 for me: ​Build: It’s built like a brick shit-house. It is a larger, thicker watch at 18.2mm x 44mm, but the titanium makes it wear surprisingly light on the wrist. ​Visibility: It’s a beautiful watch with great visibility, and the lume stays bright for well over 12 hours—essential for the environments we work in. ​Pro-Tested: I’m only recommending gear that I actually use and would put my name toward. ​I originally gave it a 4.5 for comfort, but after a quick Dremel to smooth the inner buckle edges, it’s now my go-to 5 out of 5 tool which never leaves my wrist. I'm usually a G-shock guy, Rolex's are too flashy for this type of work. Some guys wear them in Saturation but I'm not in the business of destroying a $12k watch. This watch isn't cheap by all means.
