how can you be more thoughtful when having a conversation with someone with eczema? sorry I sounded a bit triggered in this video, it brought up some deep feelings i’ve kept bottled up and I think it’s important for people to know:
have eczema?
what do I wish other people knew about my skin situation?
don’t have eczema?
how can I have a thoughtful conversation with someone who does have eczema?
if I can feel like I’m being treated like a normal person aka not actually talking about my skin problems unprovoked, then it’ll be a great time
i just thought this could be helpful since it’s eczema awareness month
how do you wish people talked to you about your skin problems?

✨ Parents of little ones with eczema… this might be a game changer.
Have you ever noticed your child’s moisturizer seems to burn when their skin is red, hot, and inflamed?
Try putting their cream (not ointment) in the fridge!
Why? Research shows that cooling the skin can help calm itch and reduce that hot, uncomfortable feeling. In fact, one study found that cooling temporarily eliminated itch in people with atopic dermatitis during the experiment.
The moisturizer isn’t magically “working better” because it’s cold. It’s still doing its job of supporting the skin barrier. The cool temperature simply adds an extra layer of comfort that can make moisturizing during a flare a little more tolerable.
A few reminders:
🧊 Refrigerate creams only if the storage instructions allow it.
🧊 Don’t freeze it.
🧊 Some eczema organizations recommend refrigerating creams, but not ointments.
Of course, talk with your doctor to see if this is best for your child.
Every child is different, but this is one simple, low-cost eczema management tip that’s worth knowing 😉

While waiting for a dinner date to arrive, Henni becomes increasingly self-conscious after other diners notice the eczema on the Hen's hands. For many individuals with visible skin conditions, the fear of being judged can be just as difficult as the physical symptoms.
Eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that causes dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. Symptoms often flare when the skin comes into contact with certain irritants or allergens. Common triggers include rough fabrics such as wool, dry skin, heat and sweat, stress, soaps and cleaning products, dust mites, pet dander, mold, pollen, and fragrances. Eczema is not contagious and cannot be spread through touch.
While there is no cure, symptoms can often be managed by moisturizing the skin regularly, taking short lukewarm showers, using gentle fragrance-free cleansers and moisturizers, and avoiding known triggers whenever possible. Prescription medications are also available for more severe cases.

Will my soap heal your eczema? Short answer: No, but it may help. Long answer: I have had a lot of my customers tell me in person that it did help their eczema or psoriasis. I can’t definitely say it WILL for legal purposes, but goats milk soap ESPECIALLY with honey and oatmeal is known for being beneficial for eczema for a reason. I like to say my soap is eczema and psoriasis SAFE rather than market it as a cure-all. If you’re curious, I’d recommend just trying it and see if it works for you. If anything, it won’t hurt https://soap-central.com/ #goatsmilksoap #handmadesoap #naturalsoap #sensitiveskin #eczema

Iron deficiency is very common for those with eczema. I believe in eating foods that can give us these nutrients first if possible before supplementing!
Bleach baths might sound scary, but they can be helpful for certain skin conditions like eczema. 🛁✨
Use ½ cup of regular 6% unscented household bleach in a full ~40-gallon tub, soak about 10 minutes. Children should be supervised at all times in a tub or water.
For a small toddler tub, the AAD suggests 1 teaspoon per gallon of water.
⚠️ Never apply undiluted bleach directly to your skin. Always use the proper dilution and follow your doctor’s instructions before trying a bleach bath.

In TCM, eczema is often viewed as a combination of excess heat, dampness and wind.
🔥 Heat shows up as redness, inflammation and a burning sensation.
💧 Dampness is associated with weeping or oozing skin.
🌬️ Wind is associated with intense, persistent itching.
One traditional Chinese food used to help “clear heat” is mung bean soup (绿豆汤). An easy version: buy dried mung beans from an Asian grocery store or the Chinese grocery app Weee (I shop on this weekly) and steep them in a hot-water thermos.
OR make one of my favourite Chinese summer sweet soups: add 1 cup of mung beans to 6–8 cups of water, rinse and soak for an hour, bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 mins until the beans are soft. Add 2–3 tablespoons of brown cane sugar (or Chinese rock sugar) to taste.
In Chinese food therapy, mung beans are considered cooling, which is why this soup is especially popular during hot summer months.

Your home could be the reason you’re flaring…
Everyone’s skin is so unique and triggers might look differently for everyone but here are some key things to look out for when you’re going through TSW or severe eczema. Especially if you’re flaring & you can’t work out why:
- Mould
- Dust
- Cleaning products
- Deodorants
- Chemicals
- Cosmetics
- Fresh paint
- Off-gassing (new furniture etc)
- Water leaks
- Dirty washing machine (rubber seal)
- Pet fur (if allergic)
- Dirty air con units
I’ve noticed since coming in to our friends healing home, my skin has improved significantly and it just goes to show how important it is to look at your surroundings to see what is in your CTRL (pardon the pun)
Let me know if there’s anything else that I’ve missed on this list that you’ve found to be the cause of your flare!
