When people first hear about the eye movements in EMDR, they sometimes assume it’s like hypnosis or worry we’re “trying to control their thoughts” 💭 Totally understandable… but that’s not what EMDR is about. EMDR doesn’t take over your mind; it helps you process and free it. 👉 Want me to keep breaking down EMDR myths like this? Any other EMDR consultants feel like they needed to read through the new rules 10x before it actually made sense?🧐 I’m actually quite happy with the new rules EMDRIA rolled for what it takes to become (and get renewed) as an EMDR Consultant for other EMDR therapists. It feels like there’s a lot more structure and support for making sure consultants have what they need to adequately support EMDR Therapists. From my view, as an EMDR certified therapist and consultant-in-training, we never stop growing 🌱 If you’re an EMDR therapist looking for support with clients who have relational trauma and applying parts work like IFS, I’m your gal! Follow along to be in the know about upcoming consultation cohorts. 🤗 #phoenixtherapist #emdrtherapist #emdria
At the 2026 EMDRIA Virtual Summit, Ana Gomez draws from the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) to explore how insecure states of mind show up as defensive processing patterns (avoidance, rumination, emotional flooding, rigid responses) that block integration. This session moves beyond formulaic interweaves and encourages clinicians to think contextually and creatively, aligning interventions with attachment strategy, developmental history, and nervous system tendencies. If you want more precision in working with blocked processing, don’t miss this one. 👉 Register: www.emdriasummit.com 🎬 Watch on YouTube: https://youtube.com/shorts/hkxX1CkPYxc #EMDRIA #EMDRTherapy #ComplexTrauma #AttachmentInformed #ContinuingEducation #EMDRIASummit2026

We’ve over-glorified the eye movements. And it’s quietly shaping how EMDR is understood… and practiced. And it changes how our clients show up, and what they expect from EMDR. Because EMDR is not just bilateral stimulation. It’s an 8-phase protocol. I’ve been using EMDR since 2018 to heal trauma, and I believe that phases 1–3 are where the real work begins. This is where safety is built. This is where adaptive networks are strengthened. This is where the nervous system is supported. This is what actually allows processing to work. When we skip or rush this? Clients struggle to process. Results aren’t as effective. And in some cases moving straight to Phase 4 without enough prep can make things worse. As an EMDR Consultant, this is the gap I see over and over again. Therapists trained in EMDR… but not fully supported in how to use it. I help consultees slow down, strengthen phases 1–3, and practice EMDR in a way that’s effective, ethical, and grounded in the nervous system. Because just eye movements don’t heal people. The whole protocol does. If you want support with this - I have openings in my Monday EMDR consultation group. Comment “EMDR” or DM me “EMDR” and I’ll send you the details. #emdrconsultation #emdrconsultant #emdrtherapist #emdrtherapy #emdr

🎙️ New Episode 🎙️ What happens when birth trauma collides with food and body struggles? 💔 This week on The Birth Trauma Mama Podcast, I’m joined by therapist Andrea Wetterau, LCSW, PMH-C, EMDRIA-certified (@nurtured.embodied.mama), for an eye-opening conversation on the intersection of birth trauma, body image, and eating concerns in the perinatal period. Andrea brings both her personal story of recovery and her professional expertise to this episode, sharing: 🍽 Why pregnancy and postpartum are such vulnerable times for eating concerns 💔 How trauma and feeling unheard can resurface old struggles with food and body 🌱 The impact of bounce-back culture on new parents 🧠 Why therapies like EMDR and IFS can support deeper healing This conversation is such an important reminder that behind food and body struggles often lies something deeper, and with the right support, healing is possible. 💜 🎧 Listen now wherever you get your podcasts.

I’m overflowing with joy and fresh inspiration after the EMDRIA Conference in Anaheim! ✨ The best part of these gatherings is always the connection and this year was no exception. I loved reuniting with longtime friends like Courtney and Julie McAllister and Deana Charter from @emdrinaz and bringing our teams together from @emdrgurus It was such a treat to meet fellow EMDR enthusiasts who are lighting up the social media space with wisdom and authenticity. Huge shoutout to Dana Carretta-Stein @the_emdr_coach and Carly @emdrwithcarly for their vibrant presence and congrats to Carly for winning the Social Media Influencer Award this year! You both radiate the same brilliance in person as you do online. I also had the honor of spending time with some of the field’s most innovative minds like Debbie Korn, co-author of Every Memory Deserves Respect @MemoryRespect, and Ad de Jongh & Suzy Matthijssen of EMDR 2.0. Their work @psytrec continues to shape the future of trauma therapy. Others that have shaped our field that I ALWAYS love to hang with are Barry Litt, Roger Soloman, Katie O’Shea, Sara Jenkins, and so many more that I didn’t get photos of! Thank you for making our community so warm and welcoming! Reconnecting with Ben and Yanick from @bilateralstimulation.io was energizing, we’ve got something exciting in the works for next year! And I was thrilled to meet Ryan and Jen Savage from the @notice_that_podcast. Can’t wait to collaborate and keep the ideas flowing! Grateful for every conversation, every spark of insight, and every shared moment. Until next time, EMDRIA fam Much ❤️
