A reminder for women engineers early in their careers:
Take up space. Share your ideas. Go for the hard problems.
You belong in the room. And the industry needs you.

At Ardurra, we actively support and encourage women in STEM, which is why we're proud to have Dolores Salgado, PE, our Practice Director, serving as the MC for the 5th Annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering Conference at Bakersfield College last Friday.
Watch as she shares her excitement about welcoming 420 high school students who are diving into hands-on engineering challenges, meeting inspiring role models, and discovering that they belong in STEM.
This is how we build the future of engineering.

#EngineersWeek wrapped yesterday.
How should future engineers choose their programs?
This week I shared a few ways.
After years visiting engineering departments, speaking with faculty, and advising students through the college admission process, I’ve learned that student fit is often shaped by factors such as:
• How often students build
• How early - and how intensely - they engage in research
• How mentoring works
• How available labs and makerspaces are
• How students connect with professional organizations and industry
For students narrowing their engineering interests, many of the students I work with have found the directories on @DiscoverEorg and NAE’s @EngineerGirlNAE / @EngineerTeen helpful for mapping disciplines and career paths.
Students can thrive in many environments.
Fit becomes clearer when students and families intentionally explore these differences.

March 8 marks International Women’s Day. 💙 Today, we recognize and celebrate the technical, social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and girls around the world.
At ECE, we’re proud to be part of a vibrant community of female engineers and allies. ⭐ Engineering benefits from a diversity of perspectives — different lived experiences lead to stronger, more creative, and more inclusive solutions, and women play an essential role in shaping the future of the field.
Today and every day, we celebrate the talent, dedication, and impact of our alumni, faculty, and students.
We’re also marking an important milestone for our department: 43% of the 2025 incoming undergraduate ECE class self-identified as female. Learn more about the progress behind this moment and how our community is working to build a more inclusive future in engineering in our latest blog post.
Hear from ECE Chair @professordeepakundur and explore our Women in ECE playlist — both available at the link in our bio. 🔗

What if more girls grew up seeing women engineers solving problems every day? 💡
For many students, STEM can feel intimidating — but the truth is that engineering is all about asking questions, breaking big challenges into smaller steps, and learning as you go.
That’s why community and mentorship matter so much.
SWENext helps girls explore engineering, connect with mentors, and grow their confidence in STEM — together. 💜
Thanks to SWENext Influencer Vivian L. for sharing this important reminder!
