Okay, I know this is going to be controversial 😂.. I’ve been experimenting with permanent earrings using 14k solid gold chain in a fully healed piercing. (2+ years old) Before anyone comes for me, I’m testing this on myself only first. There are already businesses offering permanent earrings (my clients send me their videos at LEAST once a week begging to do this for them) so I reached out to these companies and I have been assured by them that their permanent earrings have had 0 issues in over 2 years of making them… but, the permanent jewelry and piercing community frown upon it 🫣, so I wanted to experiment and find out for myself. Here’s the questions I’m trying to answer: What happens when you combine a lightweight chain, with a charm, with a controlled breakaway point? Will my healed piercing actually grow around the chain if it’s constantly moving due to the weight of the charm? Will it be impossible to clean? One of the biggest concerns I’ve heard from piercers is whether the tissue could eventually grow around such a thin chain, so that’s exactly what I’m monitoring. I’m going to document how this heals/wears over time before I even consider making this available at Weld & Wear. Scientific experiment officially underway 🧪😂 Would you wear permanent earrings? Do you think with a waiver/fair warning that people should get what they want as long as they know the risks? Why or why not? Personally, I think there’s minimal risk since the chain can be easily cut with scissors. My clients tell me the same thing, people can make their own decisions the same way they do for piercings, tattoos, plastic surgery etc. All foreign bodies can be rejected or imbedded. The great thing is, we can easily put chain on an earring post to create a similar effect but NOT permanent.
