Just one week to go until the annual ‘Endcliffe Park Duck Race’ will be taking place on Easter Monday, 6 April! 🦆🏁
Stalls open from 11am and the big race starts at 2pm.
A much-loved Easter tradition, the race is organised by Friends of the Porter Valley to help raise vital funds to support conservation in the Porter and Mayfield Valleys.
Using a unique launching tower, 2,500 numbered plastic ducks are released into Porter Brook and they float down the river for approximately 450m, where they are then caught in a specially designed finish line, and the first 40 win prizes.
The ducks are then cleaned and stored away again until next year.

it felt really heavy looking over pendle hill on good friday. the place already carries so much dark history, so i did some digging + found this:
on good friday, april 10, 1612, the men and women later known as the “pendle witches” gathered at malkin tower, the home of elizabeth (lizzie) device. they were accused of plotting against local figures and lancaster castle. the gathering was seen as blasphemous and became a key piece of evidence in the witch trials that followed
