Teacher Michelle Palmer took the mic at the SBOE to ask the hard questions: What happens when state standards force educators to erase entire perspectives, minimize key historical context, and push political agendas into our classrooms?
Texas students deserve an honest, comprehensive history education.
We stand with Texas teachers fighting for truthful education.

The moment I stopped trying to out-volume my classroom, everything changed.
For years, I did what most teachers do. I talked louder. I clapped my hands. I used that tone when I said excuse me. And every single time the noise came right back the moment I stopped.
Because I was managing the noise. Not regulating the room. There is a difference. And that difference is everything.
Here is exactly what I do now:
1️⃣ Stop everything and make deliberate eye contact. I go completely still. No movement. No words. Then I make slow, intentional eye contact with one student at a time. The silence travels across the room like a wave — from one student to the next — without me saying a single word. Calm, intentional presence does what volume never could.
2️⃣ Walk to the board and start writing without saying anything. No announcement. No direction. I just started writing. And the moment I do — curiosity takes over. What is she writing? What are we doing next? That curiosity pulls their attention in faster and more completely than any raised voice. Curiosity is always louder than noise.
3️⃣ Use a shared breathing signal. My students know that when I raise my hand and take a slow, visible deep breath, it means to stop and breathe with me. That one signal — practiced and consistent — resets the entire room in under 30 seconds. No words. No volume. Just a collective reset that regulates everyone, including me.
4️⃣ Move slowly toward the loudest part of the room. Instead of raising my voice, I walk — calmly and deliberately — toward where the noise is coming from. A regulated adult entering a dysregulated space changes the energy of that space. Students self-correct when they feel a steady, calm presence move into their area.
The noise was never the problem. My response to it was.
Save this for the next time your room gets loud. 💛

The most dangerous thing about Khan Sir is not his popularity. It is his clarity.
In a world where educators package knowledge behind paywalls and premium subscriptions, Faisal Khan built a YouTube channel from a phone and a whiteboard and refused to move it behind a gate that poor students cannot afford to enter. That decision, made quietly and repeatedly every time a crore-worth offer arrived, is the most radical act in Indian education today.
Most people who get famous get careful. They start thinking about their brand, their image, their future deals. Khan Sir got famous and got angrier. Angrier about paper leaks. Angrier about fake doctors. Angrier about a system that extracts money from desperate students and delivers nothing in return.
He is not a polished television personality. He does not speak in press release language. He sits in front of a camera and talks the way your sharpest friend would talk if your sharpest friend had read everything and was furious about what he found.
That is why crores of people watch him. Not for the content alone. For the feeling that someone on their side finally understands the system well enough to explain exactly how it is working against them.
The bombing of his coaching centre did not stop him. The FIR under the Arms Act did not stop him. The offers that would have made most people comfortable and quiet did not stop him.
He once said he wanted to serve India with a rifle and could not. So he picked up a chalk.
That chalk has now reached more Indians than most weapons ever could.
Khan Sir is not just a teacher. He is proof that in a country where education is a business, choosing your students over your salary is still the most powerful political act possible.

One of the biggest myths about homeschooling is that parents have to become experts in every subject.
But in reality, we live in a time where some of the world’s best educators, scientists, engineers, universities, and museums are publishing incredible educational resources online, for FREE.
20 years ago, access to world class learning depended heavily on your ZIP code.
Today, your child can learn science from a former NASA engineer, coding from software developers, history from world-class educators, and explore museums from around the globe...all from home.
Whether your child attends public school, private school, microschool, or homeschool, I think this is one of the most exciting shifts happening in education.
The five resources I mentioned in this video:
1 Mark Rober’s Class CrunchLabs: Hands-on STEM lessons designed to get kids genuinely excited about science.
2. Khan Academy: Free math, science, reading, economics, SAT prep, and more for all ages.
3: Crash Course: Engaging videos covering history, biology, economics, literature, psychology, and dozens of other subjects.
4. NASA STEM: Engineering challenges, lesson plans, and real science resources straight from NASA.
5. Code.org: One of the best free platforms for learning coding and computational thinking.
More free resources worth exploring:
• Smithsonian Learning Lab: History, science, art, and primary source collections.
• CK-12: Free digital textbooks, simulations, and adaptive practice.
• Google Arts & Culture: Virtual museum tours and cultural experiences from around the world.
• National Geographic Education: Geography, wildlife, nature, and exploration resources.
• MIT OpenCourseWare(great for older teens): Free college-level courses.
I’m spending the next year researching alternative education and how to prepare our kids for the world they’re going to inherit. Click follow if you’re in this dialogue too.

My hardest goodbyes come once a year—in June. 💛
Sharing this snippet of my speech to my families to encourage educators and aspiring teachers to keep going. If you have a spark in your heart to teach, do it. It will change your life. It has certainly changed mine.
The video may be blurry, but the message is clear: we need loving educators. We need passionate people. I will never stop shouting from the rooftops—and from this platform—that self-love and a love of learning start with us.
We need impactful educators who value confidence, kindness, and connection. The difference you make every day matters more than you know.💛🍎✏️
