Landing a full-time role in London before graduation didn’t happen by luck, I was constantly adding to my skillset in the background. What actually helped: 1. Picked free certifications directly relevant to the industry I wanted, not just generic “employability” courses, made my CV specific instead of vague 2. Learned basic tools the industry actually uses day to day, so I wasn’t starting from zero once I got the job, this came up naturally in interviews too 3. Followed people already working the job I wanted and noted which skills they mentioned repeatedly, then went and learned exactly those 4. Took on small freelance or volunteer projects just to have real, recent proof of a skill, not just a course completion certificate 5. Reviewed my own CV every few weeks and asked “what’s missing here that the roles I want are asking for” - small, consistent updates instead of one big rewrite before applying Upskilling constantly is what made “before graduating” possible. #sponsorshipvisa #ukjobs #internationalstudents #londonjobs #graduatejobs [UK visa sponsorship, sponsorship visa UK, UK graduate jobs, international student UK, career change UK, tech to media career, transferable skills, IT to media pivot, London media jobs, sponsored job UK, UK job search tips, career pivot tips, no experience job UK, breaking into media, negotiating job offer]
If you’re researching college admissions, college applications, and the best colleges to apply to, this ranking is worth knowing 👀 MIT ranks #1 in the world for graduate employability, with 92% of MIT graduates who wanted a job securing one within 3 months, according to MIT’s official data. But here’s what matters for your college application: overall rankings don’t tell the whole story. A college ranked #7 overall could be #1 for your specific major or career path — while a highly ranked university might not be the best fit for what you want to study. So when building your college list, don’t just ask: “Is this a top-ranked college?” Ask: “How well does this college prepare students for the career I want?” 💬 What colleges are you applying to? Today’s job market is facing an uncomfortable reality:having a degree is no longer enough to guarantee employability. In this thought-provoking conversation, the discussion turns toward the unspoken crisis in today’s job market—rising unemployment among graduates and the growing gap between academic qualifications and the skills companies actually need. The conversation highlights how even highly educated candidates can struggle to find meaningful opportunities when their skill sets don’t translate into real-world value. The bigger concern is the rapid rise of AI and automation, which is changing the nature of work faster than traditional education systems are adapting. This shift creates an important framework for anyone preparing for the future of work: Build Skills Beyond Degrees: A qualification can open a door, but practical and valuable skills determine how far you can go. Learn to Work With AI: AI shouldn't only be viewed as a threat. Those who learn to leverage AI can become significantly more productive and valuable. Why this matters for the next generation of professionals: →Degrees ≠ Guaranteed Jobs:Academic credentials alone don't ensure employment. →Skills Create Leverage: Practical abilities can differentiate you in a crowded job market. →AI Is Reshaping Work: Repetitive roles are increasingly vulnerable to automation. →Adaptability Is Essential: Continuous learning is becoming a career requirement, not an advantage. →Human Skills Matter More: Leadership, creativity, communication, and customer understanding are difficult to replace. The future of employment won't simply belong to the most educated—it will belong to those who continuously learn, adapt, create value, and know how to work alongside technology.
