Our story. #endftd #frontotemporaldementia
Frontotemporal dementia is the most common form of dementia under the age of 60. FTD can occur anytime from someone’s 20s to their 60s. #worldftdweek #frontotemporaldementia #endftd
At first when we got mums FTD diagnosis it felt like a relief, because we finally had answers…but then you learn there’s no cure or anyway to slow it down and the heartbreak hits 💔 #ftd #dementia #frontotemporaldementia #dementiaawareness #endftd #dementiacare #dementiadaughter #dementiastory #dementiacarer #ftdawareness #fyp
Did you know FTD can steal away your words? When conversations stop making sense — it’s not forgetfulness, it could be FTD. Hear from Dr. Bruce Miller and playwright Jake Broder how communication may continue – without verbal language. #endFTD #worldftdawarenessweek #itmightbedementia #whatifitsftd #beyondmemory

🧠 Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) is not the same as Alzheimer’s disease. Unlike many other dementias, FTD often begins with changes in how a person interacts or communicates, not memory loss. ⚠️ Early Signs to Watch For: 🔹 Shifts in how someone speaks or connects with others 🔹 Repetitive or impulsive behaviors 🔹 Difficulty understanding or expressing language 🔹 Poor judgment or lack of awareness of changes 💡 How It Can Progress Later On: As the disease advances, FTD can lead to ➡️ Changes in mobility and movement ➡️ Difficulty feeding or swallowing ➡️ Incontinence ➡️ And eventually, memory loss in the later stages Recognizing these patterns can help with earlier detection, care planning, and compassionate support. With today’s news about Wendy Williams coming out exactly a year after the news about Bruce Willis, I feel…….TRIGGERED. It has been a year and not one news outlet has talked about what a horrific disease this is. I am blessed to have made a lot of friends in the FTD/dementia/caregiving community, and some of us were chatting and decided to show the REAL side of FTD. My mother, the most beautiful, glamorous, and in her words, “FABULOUS” person, would NEVER be okay with me showing how she is now, which explains why I only portray her a certain way. Here’s a glimpse of what life is like. What’s not pictured: not being able to speak, the droopy, blank face, incontinence, the inability to feed oneself or brush teeth or hair, the loss each family member feels seeing Mom wither away every single day and fade into the deep dark hole that’s FTD. Mom would kill me for ever posting these things. How could the most fabulous woman turn into something like this? Unfortunately this is the path both WW and BW are on, along with their families. That’s the harsh reality. As part of the larger FTD community, I send them nothing but love and support during this awful ride. Yes, their diagnoses are great for awareness, but always remember, they are PEOPLE, just like Mom, with families, just like mine. #endftd #ftd #ftdawareness #frontotemporaldementia #frontotemporaldegeneration #dementia #dementiacare #dementiaawareness #mom #caregiver #caregivers #awareness @theaftd @therealwendywilliamsonline @brucewillisbw #wendywilliams #brucewillis

I understand how overwhelming AAC can feel- I’ve experienced it myself with the broad scope of technology, programming, and the individualization required for person-centered evaluations and treatments we are expected to navigate. This is magnified when people are coming to you as the “expert”. I really want to flip the script on this and teach SLP‘s that gaps in knowledge will be expected in a specialized, technical field that has thousands of softwares and devices. It’s okay! Tools: 🔨Have a script ready with a few features listed you know would be beneficial for the individual you are working with. 🔧Use a Feature-Matching assessment or handout to guide you through what features to consider when looking at devices. 🪛Use your speech device reps! Comment something below that you need help with in AAC evals. I guarantee you are not the only one who needs help with it! ✨Check out the AAC Freebie in highlights✨ #primaryprogressiveaphasia #adultspeechtherapy #FrontotemporalDementia #endftd #AAC #Speechdevice #cognitivefunction #mildcognitiveimpairment #cognitivehealth #dementiaawareness #AACFunding #HighTechSpeech #nonspeaking #alternativeaccess #primaryprogressiveaphasia #slpresources #speechlanguagepathology #highlevelwordfinding #wordfinding #wordretrieval #cognitivecommunication #Slp2be #slpgradstudent #strokerehab #strokerecovery
