【Metamorphose】 10 days have passed since I attempted to induce strobilation in polyps that appear to be upside-down jellyfish (Cassiopea sp.). I have already spotted a polyp that has begun its metamorphosis into a strobila (strobilation). Once this strobila detaches and becomes an ephyra, a baby jellyfish will be born. < Induction Process > For this attempt, I opted for the "salinity reduction method," which is presumably the easiest way to induce strobilation. I lowered the salinity of the seawater from 33‰ (ppt) to 20‰ and maintained it for about 5 days. After that, I returned the salinity back to 33‰. About 5 days after returning it to 33‰, I was able to confirm the metamorphosis into a strobila. However, as of now, only one strobila has been confirmed.
