Juraj Jakubisko’s "Birds, Orphans and Fools" (1969) examines the psychological residue of war through a group of young people trying to construct some form of life in its aftermath. The film’s surrealism, dark humour and abrupt shifts in tone reflect a world where conventional structures of morality and stability have already been damaged. War becomes part of the characters’ emotional landscape, shaping their relationships, desires and sense of belonging. Jakubisko presents their freedom and excess alongside an underlying awareness of historical violence, giving the film its uneasy tension between youthful vitality and a world marked by destruction. #BirdsOrphansAndFools #CzechoslovakNewWave #EuropeanCinema #ArthouseCinema #WorldCinema
