I get jealous of strangers pushing strollers.
When I was younger, I wanted a family – just not yet. In my 30s, I thought I had time. Suddenly, I’m 42 and nothing has gone to plan.
The upside of this is that I have great freedom. I recently took a job teaching English at a private high school in Taipei. I moved halfway around the world and left all of my friends and my home behind.
It’s been a tremendous adventure so far. I also lived here in my 20s (that’s part of how I ended up here), but things are different here now.
I am different now.
The downside is, of course, that I still don’t have a family. A few years ago, I went through a terrible breakup and lost contact with my ex’s young daughter. I loved her like my own, and losing her is the most painful thing I have ever experienced. Thus, when I see people out with their children, I still feel a sting.
That’s the thing about life, though: We can’t always have our cake and eat it, too. No situation is perfect, and there are plus as a minuses to every situation.
At 42, I finally quit focusing on what I don’t have and am instead watering what I do.
Here’s to this next chapter in Taiwan!!
How do you feel about “the grass is always greener on the other side” concept? Can you relate?

Moving away from your home country teaches you so much. You’re not the same. The conversations don’t hit the same way when you’re an expat. But the moment you strike a conversation with another person who has left their country, boom! You can go on and on for hours.

"Expat" is just an "immigrant" with a passport people approve of. Same move: notice which word you reach for, and why.
Living abroad is great… until you realize how quiet life can get sometimes.

Bali or Dubai… where does your money go further? 👀💸
You might think Bali wins every category, but that gym membership says otherwise 😂
From rent and brunch to massages, Pilates and cocktails, here’s what the expat lifestyle can actually cost in both places.
🌴 For context: Bali prices reflect popular expat hotspots like Canggu, Uluwatu & Seminyak, while Dubai prices reflect popular expat areas, not the cheapest way to live in either destination.
🇮🇩 Bali or 🇦🇪 Dubai, where would you rather live? 👇

being an immigrant teaches you the sound of loneliness, the weight of homesickness, and the quiet exhaustion of building a life from scratch in a place that owes you nothing.
there are days when going home feels like the easier choice.
but I didn’t move here because it would be easy. I moved because I wanted to become someone I couldn’t become by staying where I was.
so I’ll miss home. I’ll cry sometimes. I’ll question my decision.
and then I’ll get up and keep going anyway.

Sorry but I want to be comfy in my CostCo pajamas now, sue me 😂
