In Flint, a man has become a local sensation to his unique car washing routine. This comes as a surprise seeing as the Flint water crisis has only been resolved in recent years. Being a nurse immigrant is a different kind of journey. You leave everything familiar. You start over. You figure things out on your own. And when you’ve made it, a lot of people will look at your life and call it luck. And I get it. Personally, I believe everything I have is a blessing from God. But I also know what it took to get here. I delayed gratification. I stayed focused when it wasn’t fun. I said no to hangouts, night outs, even time with family — because I had to study, get my papers done, and build something for myself. So no. It’s not just luck. I worked for this. This life didn’t just happen to me. I made choices that led me here. And now I am a permanent resident in the U.S. Unfortunately, a lot of healthcare workers in the U.S. — nurses, lab techs, PTs — are working just as hard but still stuck in temporary status. Renewing visas. Waiting. Hoping. I found a program called Flint that connects healthcare workers with hospitals that actually sponsor your green card — and the hospital covers the costs. So if you’re a healthcare worker in the U.S. on: • DACA • Asylum pending (with EAD) • H1B or another temporary work authorization Comment FLINT and I’ll send you the link — it takes 2 minutes to see if you qualify. #nurses #nursinglife #nursesofinstagram #flint #americandream
A wave of new homeowners, along with private landlords and the Genesee County Land Bank Authority, are fixing up dilapidated homes to live in, rent, or sell. The spruced-up homes are raising property values and slowly replacing the roughly 24,000 vacant properties across the city. The investments have landed Flint’s homeownership rate three percentage points above the national average of 65.7%. Our reporter @reportedwithrandirichardson went On The Ground to talk about housing in Flint. Here’s her video featuring Michael Freeman, Executive Director of the @geneseecountylandbank 🎥: @isssa_natalia Click the link in bio to read the story! There’s a big difference between sayers and doers when it comes to serving the community. Sayers talk about what should be done. They point out problems. They post opinions. They wait for someone else to step up. But doers show up. They volunteer. They listen. They help their neighbors. They take action even when nobody is watching. Real leadership is not about how much you say, it is about how much you do. Our community does not just need more talk. We need more action. More hands. More hearts willing to serve. So let this be encouragement to everyone. Stop waiting. Stop talking about change. Be the change. Pick up that trash. Help that neighbor. Attend that meeting. Volunteer at that event. Speak up, but most importantly, show up. Because communities do not grow from words alone. They grow from people who are willing to do the work. #flint7thwardcitycouncilcandidate #darellbrownfor7thward #flint #doers

Lots of activity on a Wednesday afternoon in old Flint Town! These houses are all in excellent condition and getting better every day. One of my clients is rehabbing a 120 year old Tudor Revival over on the next block and spent $80k on the brickwork alone! MLK Ave is a Class A emergency route and is fairly well maintained as you can see here in this video. Flint officials are relaunching a campaign to crackdown on illegal dumping in the city. The city is offering cash rewards for information that leads to an arrest for illegal dumping. Mayor Sheldon Neeley held a news conference Friday, in front of a burned out northside house, filled with hundreds of old tires. Neeley said the crackdown is aimed at individuals, and companies that treat the city of Flint like a dumping ground. “You are not going to be allowed to do business in this city anymore,” Neeley said of businesses caught dumping in the city.
