The road to FNB Stadium 🏟️

Before the iconic FNB Stadium (also known as Soccer City) became the largest stadium in Africa, it stood as a more modest venue with a capacity of around 40,000 seats. But everything changed in the lead-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, when the old structure was dramatically transformed into a world-class stadium with a stunning new design.
🔨 Built on the same site, parts of the old stands — especially sections of the lower tier — were carefully preserved and integrated into the new stadium, blending past and future in one architectural masterpiece.
⚽️ The new FNB Stadium now holds 94,736 spectators, featuring a unique calabash-inspired design (an African pot), a full 360-degree roof, VIP suites, and cutting-edge broadcast facilities.
🇿🇦 It became the centerpiece of the World Cup — hosting the opening match and the final — and has since been the heart of South African football and major concerts.
