🎥 by @snappysammyphotos @lifeofasharkdiver casually waiting for a tiger shark to make a 100ft vertical ascent to check him out. *update* I never would have expected this post out of all my posts to reach the level of likes and shares that it has (it’s a lot compared to my other posts). So I figured I’d say a little more about it. We had been diving with a couple of tigers and a handful of other species for awhile. Eventually the sharks got bored with us/more interested in something deeper that we can’t see here. We do know this tiger (Roxy) but that does not by any means mean she’d be treated differently than any other tiger we know or don’t know. She came straight back up one more time from out of visibility. Nick waited for her and then went down to meet her. Redirects are necessary when a tiger approaches like this no matter their intention. Those redirects can often times be easier underwater. You see Nick put his hand out and being very experienced with tigers presses her in the direction he wants her to go. You can see Nick readjust his hand as she presses back just a little. Now that she’s seen what she wanted to see the interaction parts there. And no - he wasn’t scared. I bet his heart didn’t even pound faster once. We love sharks and they do deserve a massive amount of respect and certain behaviors to safely interact with them. It’s normal for most people to feel there’s no way they could handle this situation … which is why you come dive with us! We live for handling these types of situations. There are a lot of cool animals you can see in shallow reef areas, but the feeling of this infinite deep is unmatched. The idea of knowing that anything could be out there sharing the water with you sounds terrifying, but it is such a unique feeling that I cannot help but become obsessed.
