A little spritz here…behind the ears 💦😆 One tool I love to use as a Fear Free Certified veterinarian is Pheromones. 🐶🐱 Dog and cat pheromones increase feelings of familiarity and security. Pheromones are odorless, colorless, chemical signals used as a form of intraspecies scent communication. When detected they cause physiological and behavioral changes. Whether used in veterinary clinics, street vet work, shelters, or homes, pheromone products are designed to bolster a sense of calm, comfort, and positive feelings in stressful environments. It’s just one of the Fear Free techniques I use as we strive to alleviate fear, anxiety and stress in our pets and those who care for them! I’m very proud to work at a practice that embraces fear-free techniques in veterinary care, even if that means I often come home covered in spray cheese 🧀 The fear-free approach is all about putting an animal’s emotional needs first, to make the sensory experience of being at the vet’s less overwhelming. This can range from creating a pleasant waiting room environment with designated quiet areas for nervous pets and soothing music, to implementing an intentional scheduling system and ensuring multiple entry points into the practice, to using high-value treats to soothe a dog who hates having his nails trimmed until he becomes your best friend 🤷🏻‍♀️ Is your dog this calm for nail trims? Do you use any fear-free techniques at home? #fearfreevetvisit #fearfree #dognailtrim #dogmoms #fearfreecertifiedprofessional
⚠️⚠️FLOOFIN’ SAVE THIS ONE!⚠️⚠️ ❓ DO YOU KNOW ALL OF THESE??? ❓ I always feel I should talk more about canine behaviour in grooming - understanding the dogs in my care is an essential part of the service I personally offer. It scares me that many people who own dogs, or who work with them, don’t know about stress levels & signals… This little video hopes to teach you 3 things: 🍬Why some dogs won’t take treats during grooming (or other stressful situations) 🍬Some of the stress signals a dog can show 🍬Empathy! - To respect dogs and their signals Imagine if EVERY dog owner and dog professional HAD to be trained in canine behaviour… even if just the basics… I think we’d have happier dogs, less dog bites & safer relationships with our canine friends! Who wants more behaviour info & seminars from me??? Let me know in the comments! Sweeties in the comments if you’ve read this far please! 🍬 🍭 🍫 🍬 #ukdoggroomer #doggroomeruk #doggroomers #ukdoggroomers #doggroominglife #doggroominguk #petservices #doggroomer #petgroomingschool #petgroomer #doggrooming #doggroomingsalon #lovemud #dog #walk #dogwalker #dogwalkerlife #dogwalkersofinstagram #vet #vetnurse #vetnurselife #canine #caninebehavior #caninebehaviour #caninebehaviourist #dog #dogtraining #dogtrainer #forcefree #fearfree
Let’s have some fun! I will go first: “My pet hasn’t been to a veterinarian in years. He’s HEALTHY” As much as I love healthy pets, my colleagues still want to see them on an annual basis to make sure they stay in tip top shape! Here are a few reasons why it’s important to see your veterinarian yearly: ✅ Vaccine updates! There are core vaccinations that should be updated on a regular basis particularly Rabies and Bordatella. Some practices use vaccine protocols that are every 3 years so make you check with your veterinarian to know which plan your pet is on. ✅ Parasite exams! Let’s make sure your pet is staying safe from fleas, heart worms and intestinal parasites. Your pet may have a blood sample drawn, a fecal sample taken and then examined intently for any evidence of little bugs that don’t belong! ✅ Weight! Yes, more than 50% of our pets fall in the category of being overweight and/or obese. Obesity is a medical condition that is 100% preventable so having regular body condition and weight evaluations can help your vet come up with a plan to make sure your pet stays or progresses to a healthy weight. ✅ Lab work! At a certain age, it’s imperative that your pet has regular lab work completed to check organ function and overall health status. There are plenty of endocrine or age related diseases that can be detected early on and then managed/treated before symptoms become too severe. ✅ Nutrition! Nutrition is the 5th vital assessment and should be brought up at every exam to make sure your pet is on the right diet for life-stage, life style and the appropriate form/function(canned vs dry vs everything else) At the end of the day, I love when my pet guardians take an active role in the overall health and wellbeing of their pets because we know that pets and people are just better together. Have you seen your veterinarian within the past year?! If not, reach out and restart that journey with your favorite family doctor ♥️🩺🐾 #veterinarian #vetmom #petguardians #pethealth #onehealth #dogs #cats #vetstudent #vettechs #vetassistants #petfriendly #fearfree #animalhealth #askthevet#animalwelfare #spectrumofcare #catowners #doglover #InstaVetBestie

It's the little things that make all the difference! 🐕 Flax has spent his entire life up until now in a barren cage on a dog meat farm in South Korea. He did not have enough space to move or have any enrichment. For a young pup like him, it is especially hard to not be able to explore and play. Simple things like a toy can have so much positive impact on his well-being. At our care and rehabilitation centre, Flax is finally able to run outside, explore his environment and play with toys whenever he wants!
