Yesterday I met with business owners from across Hinckley and Bosworth to discuss everything from the economy, rising oil prices, recruitment and import and exports. The businesses ranged from hosiery manufacturers and financial management, to makers of mattresses used in hospital beds and a company that develops carbon fibre for things like Formula 1 cars 🏎️ It was good to hear directly from business owners about the issues affecting them here in our area as well as national policies. They certainly gave me lots to talk about in Parliament! Thank you to NatWest for organising the event and to @peppervinetapas at @the_sycamores__burbage for having us.
These are SO important, especially number 13… 1. Micromanaging everything. Trying to control every detail limits growth. 2. Saying “yes” to everything… taking on every client, project, or opportunity can dilute your focus and revenue potential. 3. Ignoring systems and processes. Without repeatable systems, growth becomes unsustainable. 4. Avoiding delegation. Stop thinking you have to do it all yourself… hire or outsource where needed. 5. Neglecting financial management like not tracking cash flow, profit margins, and budgets is a fast way to plateau. 6. Being reactive instead of proactive. Only responding to problems or trends keeps you behind the curve. 7. Chasing every shiny marketing trend. Stop jumping from one marketing idea to the next without a strategy. 8. Undercharging or undervaluing your offer. Price too low, and you won’t scale. 9. Avoiding tough conversations. Clients, employees, or partners sometimes need honest talks and avoiding them lets problems grow. 10. Failing to track key metrics. If you don’t measure KPIs like CAC, LTV, conversion rates, and churn, you can’t scale efficiently. 11. Trying to be everything to everyone. Specialization wins. Stop diluting your brand by trying to appeal to everyone. 12. Ignoring your personal development. Your mindset, skills, and health impact your business so don’t neglect your growth as a leader. 13. Sticking with low ROI activities. Stop spending time on tasks that don’t move the needle. 14. Fear of investing. Scaling usually requires money… whether in people, systems, or marketing. 15. Holding onto outdated strategies. What worked at $100k revenue won’t necessarily work at $1M. If you are also building a small business, join me! Financial Management (FM) For Financial Management (FM), I have prioritized the chapters that I personally believe are the most important based on ICAI chapter-wise weightage, past examination trends, and my own preparation. These are the chapters I would complete first if I had limited time, as they consistently carry good scoring potential. Regarding Working Capital Management, it is a comparatively lengthy chapter. I recommend completing all the other priority chapters first. Once you've finished those and still have time, you can move on to Working Capital Management. --- Strategic Management (SM) For Strategic Management (SM), I have given Chapter 1 my first priority because it is comparatively easier to complete, easier to remember, and ICAI has consistently asked at least one question from this chapter in every attempt. The remaining four chapters carry almost equal weightage. If you have limited time, I recommend preparing at least three chapters thoroughly. That said, if you feel more comfortable with the other chapters, you can choose to skip Chapter 1 and focus on the remaining chapters instead. I have prioritized Chapter 1 simply because I personally find it easier to complete and retain compared to the other chapters. If time permits before the exam, I recommend revising the important topics from the remaining chapter as well. --- Disclaimer This strategy is intended for students who don't have enough time to complete the entire syllabus but still want to maximize their score through smart prioritization. These are also the chapters I personally prioritized for my own preparation. The approximate weightage mentioned is based on ICAI chapter-wise weightage, past examination trends, and my personal analysis. It is not a prediction of the question paper or a guarantee of marks. #castudents #charteredaccountant #icai #caexams #fyp
