New engine. Old tradition. 🚒🔥
This morning, Temecula Fire Station 12 welcomed a brand-new fire engine into service with the traditional push-in ceremony. 🙌
This new Engine 12 represents the City of Temecula’s continued investment in Public Safety and our first responders. The engine will serve to protect life and property in our city for many years to come. ❤️
🚒💨 FUN FACT!
Ever wonder how fast a fire engine driver can go during an emergency?
Typically, about 10 MPH over the posted speed limit—but there’s a catch! 👀 🚨 Freeways and interstates?
👉 It depends! Road conditions, traffic, weather, visibility, the type of apparatus, and the circumstances of the emergency all matter.
Lights and sirens don’t mean “pedal to the metal!” 😂 Firefighters still have to drive with due regard for everyone’s safety.
Fast matters. Getting there safely matters more!
Engine 1 is officially in service.
Today, Orange City Fire Department placed our newest fire engine into service at Fire Station 1, our headquarters station.
Originally ordered in 2023, this apparatus has been years in the making. Following the manufacturing process, delivery, equipment installation, training and final preparations, Engine 1 is now ready to serve the Orange community.
More than just a new engine, it’s an investment in the equipment our firefighters rely on every day to respond safely and effectively when our community calls.
Welcome to the fleet, Engine 1.
Family. Pride. Tradition.
Keeping Little Elm rolling… one tire tube at a time. 🛞🛟
Behind every police car, fire engine, ambulance, dump truck, mower, and service vehicle is our Fleet team working hard to keep the Town moving. From routine maintenance and repairs to emergency fixes, they help ensure the vehicles our employees rely on every day are safe, reliable, and ready to serve the community.
They may not always be in the spotlight, but they’re a huge part of what keeps Little Elm running.

🚒 Tools of the Trade: Fire Engine or Fire Truck? What’s the Difference?
It’s a question we get ALL the time: “Is it a fire engine or a fire truck?”
The answer is… yes! 😂 But there’s actually a pretty cool difference.
Think of our fire apparatus as having different jobs on the team:
🚒 Engine: The water-and-hose specialist. Engines carry water, hose, pumps, and equipment used to attack fires and supply water to other crews.
🪜 Truck: The high-rise hero. Trucks are built for getting up, over, and into places. Think aerial ladders, rescue equipment, ventilation, forcible entry, and reaching people or areas that are difficult to access.
And here's where it gets really interesting: modern fire apparatus can do a LOT more than their names suggest. They carry everything from extrication tools and thermal imaging cameras to breathing equipment, ladders, saws, rope rescue gear, and specialized tools for all kinds of emergencies.
The terminology also has some history behind it. Long before firefighters had motorized rigs, departments used different horse-drawn apparatus for specific jobs. As the fire service evolved, the horses were replaced by horsepower—but many of the traditional names and specialized roles stuck around. 🐴➡️🚒
So the next time you see one of our rigs responding, take a closer look. It’s not just a fire truck—it’s a highly specialized toolbox on wheels. 🔥🛠️
And yes… You can still call it a fire truck. We won’t judge. Ok, maybe a little. 😉😂

Farewell to two pieces of history… 💜
As we prepare for exciting changes to our Seasonal Village, we’ll soon be saying goodbye to two much loved favourites from our play area, the Paradise Express and our fire engine, as they leave us in early September.
The Paradise Express, previously known as Thomas the Tank Engine, has been part of the zoo for over 30 years. Originally a 30-tonne shunting engine from London Docks, it was purchased by our founder, Peter Sampson, for its scrap value before being completely restored and transformed into the attraction generations of families have enjoyed.
Our fire engine followed soon after, receiving a similar transformation and becoming another familiar part of the zoo for many years. 🚒
After more than three decades, both will now be finding new homes to make way for an exciting new development and the next chapter of Hertfordshire Zoo. ✨
While it’s sad to see them go, they’ve been part of countless memories and will always hold a special place in our history. 💜

When private equity steps into essential public services, local taxpayers and emergency responders end up paying the ultimate price. In this eye-opening Congressional clip, Senator Josh Hawley exposes the staggering inflation hitting municipal fire departments across the nation, revealing how a basic fire engine that once cost $662,000 has suddenly skyrocketed past $1 million—with delivery backlogs stretching up to four long years. As local fire districts struggle to replace aging equipment, market consolidation by just three massive manufacturers has squeezed local budgets, leaving firefighters waiting on crucial emergency vehicles while corporate profits multiply.
Watch how Hawley presses industry leadership on skyrocketing margins, supply chain delays, and the real-world impact on community safety, proving that the fire truck crisis isn't just about rising equipment costs—it’s about corporate practices directly threatening public safety
