He thought he was coming back to Station 6 after a call. He had no idea what was waiting for him. Stephen Mayer was promoted to Battalion Chief this week, and when he returned, the station was packed with family, friends and firefighters there to celebrate him. Some traveled from other states. Others came from different chapters of his life. All came for the same reason. To celebrate Stephen Mayer! Born and raised in Queens, New York, Stephen found his calling in the fire service in 1995 when he joined the Fire Reserve Program. Forcible entry requires knowledge, technique, and repetition. Hughesy fires up over Victoria’s Emergency Services Levy! Victorians are paying more, so where is the money going? Because it certainly doesn’t seem to be making its way back into the fire service. If communities are paying more, they deserve the resources and protection they’re paying for.

We like to say we go the extra mile for our community, and in this case, we really did! Our firefighters recently responded to an incident involving a person on an electric bike. The patient had to be transported, and instead of leaving the electric bike at the scene, one of our firefighters volunteered to ride the bike back to Station 11 for the patient to pick up. Long story short, the bike didn't work, so our firefighter had to pedal the bike back to the station in his gear, which was almost 10 blocks away. Never a dull day in the fire service, and definitely never a dull day at ACFR!!! (Points if you recognize the music...)
