How can you sum up a 4,800mi hike in just one minute? You can't, but I tried my best. In 2016 I walked from Cap Gaspe Quebec all the way down to Key West Florida. This hike was more of a combination of many other trails, than a single trail itself. Along the way I did the International Appalachian Trail, Appalachian Trail, part of the Benton Mackaye Trail, Pinhoti Trail, Florida Trail, and Overseas Heritage Trail. I spent 205 days doing this, where I averaged about 24 miles every day. I started July 1st, and finished January 21st. #appalachiantrail #thruhike #easterncontinentaltrail #pinhotitrail #floridatrail #hiking #backpacking #ultralight

🎉 The Inaugural Florida Trail Fest at Foster State Park! 🌿🚶‍♂️ What started as a simple gathering of thru-hikers celebrating Billygoat Day has grown into something even bigger—Florida Trail Fest! For years, Billygoat Day has been an annual meetup at Lake Mills Park, organized entirely by the amazing Trail Angels of FT Thru Hike to celebrate legendary hiker Billygoat’s birthday. It’s a time for thru-hikers, past and present, to reunite, swap stories, and share their love for the Florida Trail. This year, we took that spirit and expanded it into a full-blown festival—bringing together hikers, trail angels, and conservationists to celebrate the trail that connects us all. Minor hiccups? Sure. But the camaraderie, the kindness of strangers, and the joy of shared adventure made it all worth it. ✨ Personal highlight? Seeing thru-hikers take a moment to play with our little one—a reminder that the trail is about more than just miles; it’s about the people. And reconnecting with familiar faces, knowing no time or distance changes the bond we share? Pure magic. This event was the fruit of our labor, a dream made reality. ~ What a experience the Florida Trail has been so far 🥾🔶🐊 . I can only imagine the feeling of walking through these swamps for the first four days. Every step has to be thought through. Watching for gators 🐊 snakes and just keeping your balance. What a workout. . Thankfully my Wildflower @alvines has completed the most challenging part of the Florida trail. . She did see a water moccasin and encountered another snake that caused her to do a little high stepping. . I was so thankful to receive this message yesterday morning. “Tiny bit of service but just letting you know I’m safe and doing great. I should be out of the swamp in about 7 miles” . I feel like I’ve been holding my breath waiting on updates. I’m so blessed that my Wildflower is thoughtful and knows how desperately I need to hear she’s safe. . Could you walk through these swamps?
