Hairdressers, you know EXACTLY what I mean 🤏🏽 After 2 hours of foiling, you step back and know you’ve nailed it before she even gets to the basin. People tell me they’re sorry I’m foiling for 2+ hours .. I literally live for this because I know what I’ve just done ✔️ before we even rinse 🫡
Repeat after us… ART 👏 TAKES 👏 TIME. And every single second is worth it ✨ Thank you, Tress, for shining a light on the skill, care and attention that goes into every. single. foil. 🫶 @tressesbytress , our Canadian Ambassador, takes us step-by-step through her thought process behind just one foil, showing exactly why foiling is never something to rush. 😮‍💨 It’s a delicate balance of technique and care, always keeping the health of the hair front of mind. Because those 4–5 hour appointments? They’re not just time spent… they’re time invested in making sure the hair looks and feels its best 💕
Trust the professionals! We know what we are doing! But in all seriousness no client was harmed in the making of this video!
POV: you stop using foils that slip. No fixing bleeds mid-section. No fighting for control. No second guessing your placement. Just clean sections, smooth workflow, and consistent results. Once your tools work properly… you don’t go back.
Hair stylists really said “no 9–5… we’ll take 9–9 instead.” 😂✂️ Behind every blonde transformation is hours of foiling — and your foils should keep up. The one thing most stylists miss when placing this foil… It’s the difference between a harsh “stripe” and a sun-kissed blend that grows out for months. I’m sharing a little secret today: it’s all about the feathering technique at the top of the foil. Most people just apply product, but if you don't adjust your brush pressure as you get closer to the root, you risk those dreaded "bleed spots." In this video, I’m using a specific angle to make sure the transition is seamless. This way, when the hair grows, there’s no "line of demarcation" just a soft, natural glow. I’m curious—do you prefer your highlights to start right at the root, or do you like a more lived-in, blended look? Let me know in the comments!
Don’t overthink painting in a foil!! ➡️ MOST IMPORTANT POINTS: - get lightener on first so that your foil can stay in place - turn your brush vertically so you can easily feather at the top of the foil - if you feel like you’re fighting with the lightener in the foil to get enough saturation, change the mixing ratio (add more developer) - if you feel like the lightener is dripping everywhere and not keeping the foil in place, change the mixing ratio (add more powder) ✅ The board is my Blonde Chronicles Blending Board (comment TOOLS if you want me to send you a link) ✅ The foils are the 6 x 12.5 size from @houseoffoils 🫶🏼 The dreamy texture of this lightener is @schwarzkopfusa BlondMe with 20 vol mixed in a 1:1.5 ratio #workingwithskp
foil pulling ✨- the satisfying part 😍 where you get to reveal the seamless blends 🤍🤎
If you’re still doing it the “standard” way… you might be making it harder than it needs to be. Foiling isn’t about following a pattern It’s about solving a problem. Better placement = better results Every single time.
next time you have a foil client try these 5 important steps 1. use paper thin subsections, no matter what type of pickup you’re doing 2. make sure to start with a lower developer than you plan on finishing with 3. ALWAYS, always foil with the hairline 4. saturation is key for even lift 5. I recommend never foiling up to the scalp with anything higher than 20 volume, too risky your feeds about to get a lot more honest, let’s go!
Great foils are not all about speed — they’re about control. 4 key things every stylist must master: 1. Product choice & control It’s not just what you use — it’s how you use it. Clean saturation without overloading is everything. 2. Application: foil tension & placement Your tension controls the result. Too loose = bleeding 3. Sectioning (clean partings) Messy sections = messy results. Clean partings instantly elevate your work. 4. Processing time & consistency Uneven timing = uneven lift. Ideally work with 2 stylists. If you’re solo — start from the back, rinse the back first to keep everything even. ✨ This is what makes highlights look expensive Save this & refine your technique.
I don’t foil the way most stylists do, and here’s why. You can use the same formula, the same lightener, the same toner… and still get a completely different result depending on how the hair is picked up and placed in the foil. If your color isn’t blending the way you want, it’s not always what you’re using, it’s how you’re using it.
