Jumping is actually really hard for most people because they don’t know how to distribute force through their whole body. Instead of spreading force from the ground up, it gets dumped into certain joints or muscles, which makes the movement feel heavy and inefficient. With Functional Patterns, I’ve been working on distributing that force across my entire system so everything works together and feels more effortless. #functionalpatterns #fpisthestandard #projectfunction
CEO and Founder of FP, @theleverking, putting the first principles from our @10weekonlineprogram and @functionaltraining.system into practice. Fundamentally, Functional Patterns is all about antifragility.
Sometimes when we think about engaging in a therapeutic practice, it can end up in a place where the environment has to be perfect in order for the body to recover. It’s not like that with us. We help people deal with chaotic scenarios and guide them out of it to become stronger than who they were before, physiologically stronger too.
There’s never a bad time to start FP.

Functional patterns leverage king -

Debilitating Back Spasms to Stable, Pain-Free Function
“Years of trying to manage scoliosis through conventional approaches brought little relief while pain and dysfunction continued progressing. Through Functional Patterns, Chandler improved posture, spinal mechanics, and movement integration—eliminating the lumbar spasms that once left him debilitated.”
Before FP:
❌ Back spasms: 10/10
❌ Scoliotic curve
❌ Scapular winging
❌ Lumbar compression
❌ Anterior pelvic shift
❌ Anterior pelvic tilt
❌ Abdominal bloating
❌ Poor posterior chain engagement
❌ Shoulder depression
❌ Cervical compression
After FP:
✔️ Back spasms resolved: 0/10
✔️ Improved scoliotic curve
✔️ Reduced scapular winging
✔️ Decreased lumbar compression
✔️ Improved pelvic alignment
✔️ Reduced abdominal distention
✔️ Posterior chain engaged
✔️ Improved shoulder position
✔️ Improved cervical alignment
✔️ Greater stability while standing and walking
Great work FP Sacramento!

This is not a workout. It’s neuromuscular reprogramming.
Through Functional Patterns, we retrain the connection between the brain and the body—helping the patient replace compensatory movement patterns with more efficient ones.
When the body is stuck in the wrong pattern, simply building strength may reinforce the same dysfunction. That’s why this work is part of the treatment: we don’t only train the muscles—we change how the body moves.
Assessment. Reprogramming. Functional movement.

This is all Functional Patterns is:
It forces you to deload the body through doing movement that by nature can’t be loaded with any meaningful intensity nor progressively overloaded over time.
So before you’ve even started, two important training principles are flushed down the shitter.
The other thing their exercise selection tends to do is get you to move through:
1) ranges of motion you don’t normally do in your usual sport training (sometimes for good reason)
2) planes of movement you don’t normally move through in your usual sport training (also sometimes for good reason)
So through the combination of
1) deloading the body for a prolonged period of time
2) utilising and frequenting more ROM
3) utilising and frequenting other planes of movement
You “feel better”. It’s basically a glorified prehab protocol.
When in reality you can keep following whatever program you are already doing but just through in regular deloads when required, change exercise selection so you train through different ranges of motion specially when you are further away from competition/offseason and do the same thing with exercise selection that utilises different planes of movement.
Good strength and conditioning coaches have been doing this for decades already as part of a good training program.
You can’t just come in out of no where and call it Functional Patterns and pretend you’ve discovered fire.
Easy 260kg for a double btw
One of the biggest mistakes people make with leg training is thinking that more weight automatically means better results. In reality, if you can’t create the right leverage, you’re leaving strength, stability, and muscle on the table.
The Leverage King was designed around one simple idea: change the leverage, and you change how your body has to organize itself. By attaching below the knee and creating a unique line of pull, it helps you generate more stability, torque, and engagement throughout the entire leg, especially through the glutes and hip complex. It works with resistance bands or cable machines, making it incredibly versatile for home or gym training.
Whether you’re completely new to training your legs or you’ve been lifting for years, this is one of those tools you don’t fully understand until you put it on. The sensation is different. The engagement is different. It teaches your body to create leverage instead of simply pushing harder, building on the same principles taught throughout Functional Patterns. Once you feel it, you’ll understand why it’s become one of the most unique lower-body training tools we’ve ever used.

It was a pleasure to have @saints Tight End @itsjuwan in our facility for the week during his visit to Orange County.
Most athletes nowadays are chasing big numbers in the gym, and they end up needlessly compressing their joints in the pursuit of strength and performance. Instead, @functionalpatterns allows you to ignite muscles using principles such as mechanical leverage. Notice how even at Juwan’s strength and size, he fatigues performing a shoulder press with just a 20 lb dumbbell. He wasn’t breaking a sweat because he did tons of reps, but rather this fatigue was induced in just 3 reps by positioning his entire body in a way that forced his shoulder to contract exponentially harder. This is how we strengthen entire chains of muscles without any of the joint pains associated with intense weightlifting here at Functional Patterns.
It’s rare to come across an athlete of Juwan’s caliber who possesses the foresight to recognize that sustainable training is how you achieve longevity - for both on the field and long after you retire from competing. When you orient your training around pragmatic first principles and values, you can achieve strength, athleticism, and joint health simultaneously without compromise.

Starting the week strong and moving with more intention today. 💛💪🏽
Lately, I’ve started incorporating Functional Patterns and biomechanics into my weekly workout schedule, which is really just a simple way of saying that we are teaching the body to move the way it was designed to move.
Instead of isolating muscles, we train the whole body as one connected system. How we walk, rotate, push, pull, stabilize, and breathe. When these patterns improve, everything else follows.
Let me tell you why I love this approach for longevity:
• Kinder to the joints
• Helps correct posture and alignment
• Builds strength without unnecessary strain
• Improves energy, balance, and everyday movement
• And most of all, it keeps the body feeling strong and resilient as we age
For me, it is not just about fitness. It is about moving through life with more ease, more power, and more presence. Not only today, but also in the years ahead. It helps me show up better for myself and for Deia.
Wishing you all a grounded and motivated Monday. 💛✨
Sprinkling in some rotational work will definitely help you as an athlete.
Train the planes.
You don’t need to take it to the extremes of functional patterns.
But definitely don’t sleep on rotational based exercises!
Free that spine up.
