Instability is rarely good — in a Jenga tower, your latest relationship, or figure-ground, it can be completely destructive.
Now, we can't help with the Jenga tower or your relationship. But the figure-ground thing? Gestalt Principles: Design Intuitive Interfaces has your back.
Besides saving your understanding of figure-ground, this Self-Paced Course promises:
→ The most in-depth course on Gestalt on the market
→ Hands-on practice to take Gestalt from theory to practice
→ Access now, so you can get to work immediately
And best of all? It’s taught by a real NN/G expert, so you know you can trust his advice.
Want to give your understanding of Gestalt Principles an upgrade?
Check out our Self-Paced course for the full course details. Link in bio → All post links.

Design Foundation Series 07✨
Your brain connects shapes even when they aren’t fully drawn — that’s how powerful perception is. And yes, most people experience Gestalt principles without even realizing it.
This episode simplifies the key Gestalt principles that help designers create layouts that feel natural, organized & easy to understand.

Do abstract shapes shape the way we think? Dive into how geometry influences our beliefs and perceptions. #philosophy #geometry #belief #concepts #spatialthinking #ideas #thoughtprovoking
Day 5 of 21 — your brain has been applying these design rules your entire life. You just didn’t have the names for them.
Good design isn’t about taste. It’s about psychology. Specifically, the Gestalt Principles. Developed in the 1920s by German psychologists, and now encoded into every Al design tool that generates layouts.
All 7 principles, quick version:
Proximity - close = related. Space creates meaning without adding anything.
Similarity - look-alikes are grouped together. Why are all primary buttons the same color?
Continuity — the eye follows paths. Progress bars, breadcrumbs, and onboarding flows.
Closure — your brain fills in missing shapes. The FedEx arrow you’ve never consciously noticed.
Common Fate - things that move together are grouped together. Micro-interactions.
Figure/Ground — your brain separates what you’re looking at from everything else. Modals.
CTAs.
Prägnanz - the brain prefers the simplest interpretation. Google’s homepage. Apple’s product pages.
Accordions.
And here’s the thing about AI tools like Figma AI, Uizard, and Galileo: they apply these principles automatically - because they were trained on thousands of human-designed interfaces that already used them. If you don’t understand why, you can’t improve what the AI gives you.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE: Open any app. Screenshot any screen. Find one Gestalt principle in action and post it in the comments. I’ll look at every single one and tell you what else I can spot that you might have missed.
Save this — you’ll use it every time you open Figma.

Hello Graphologists
If you didn’t practice doing Gestalt signature analysis try this:
Look at someone signing from a distance and apply whatever you can. At this angle, you will only be able to apply Gestalt analysis. It’s a good way to master Signature Analysis by The #FITmethod developed by Paresh Chitnis
Theme: Patterns
Ideology: Structuralism 🌟
(Pronounced struk-chuh-ruh-liz-uhm)
Origin: Latin + French
Derived from the Latin word structura, meaning “to build” or “to arrange,” and later developed through French structuralisme. It emerged in the 20th century as an approach to understanding systems by analyzing the relationships and structures that organize their parts.

For most of history, every major innovation created the same pattern and economic divergence.
A small group understood early. They adapted. They built. They accumulated advantage.
Everyone else caught up later.
That distance — between what the world has discovered and what society has absorbed — is the Meaning Gap.
It's not a deficit of information. It's a deficit of structured intelligence.
And right now, it's widening faster than at any point in history.

Gate 45: the Gate of the Gatherer - Leadership through service and the skill of turning resources into real support for a community. When Gate 45 is healthy, authority becomes stewardship rather than control.
Practical tip: when you step into Gate 45 energy, make clear agreements first — confirm roles, expectations, and how resources will be shared. Clarity prevents conflict and builds trust. ✨

This is pure Gestalt psychology in action:
Your brain doesn’t just see raw facts — it organizes everything into a complete “whole” (a gestalt). The whole is different from the sum of its parts.
David’s mind creates a positive whole: “My marriage is perfect and secure.” That perception gives him peace, confidence, and unstoppable energy.
Alan’s mind creates a negative whole: “She’s probably cheating.” Even with zero evidence, that perception fills him with stress, suspicion, and self-sabotage.
Your perception doesn’t just color reality — it literally shapes the life you live.
Are you what YOU make yourself be… or what the OTHERS make you be?

Lessons from Gate 17
Opinions are meant to be shared and challenged; what are some healthy outlets to release this energy? What are the people and/or places where you’re invited and recognized to share?
You are not your opinions. They’re just one of many ways in which you interpret the world. How can you practice detachment from your opinions? How can you infuse playfulness in your ideas? How can you see challenges as ways to strengthen them?

The Paradoxes of Life — Part 3
Inspired by the work of @SahilBloom
What looks effortless…
was built through effort.
Hours. Days. Years of practice—
hidden behind a single moment of ease.
This is The Effort Paradox.
The most effortless performances
are the result of relentless, unseen work.
What looks natural…
was trained.
