Your living room has been converted into a shrine for pigskin worship, complete with a mini-fridge stocked with beverages for “game day hydration.” The Five Stages of Grief: Football Edition 🏈Denial In the beginning, you think, “How bad can it be?” He’s just watching a game; we all have hobbies, right? 🏈Anger Fast forward to Sunday when the TV is monopolized from dawn to dusk. You can’t even hear yourself think over the cheering, cursing, and occasional sobbing. Suddenly, you start to miss the times when his biggest passion was collecting model airplanes or watching cooking shows. 🏈Bargaining You attempt to strike a deal: for every football game he watches, he has to sit through an episode of your favorite drama. He agrees but somehow ends up providing a play-by-play analysis of the fictional characters as if they’re third-string quarterbacks. 🏈Depression You realize that football season is followed by draft season, which is followed by pre-season. It never ends! 🏈Acceptance You start to schedule outings with friends during game time, and hey, you’ve even learned a bit about the game. Now you know that a “pigskin” isn’t a type of rustic décor and “going long” isn’t referring to a road trip. 🏈How to Speak “Football-ese” To communicate during the season, you have to understand the language. ‘First down,’ ‘interception,’ and ‘field goal’ are now crucial additions to your vocabulary.
