Tests with different Hahnemühle and Clairefontaine papers from Creativeworld Frankfurt 🔹️Here the Hahnemühle papers ▪︎ Harmony 300 gms hot pressed 👍 ▪︎ Harmony 300 gms rough 👍 ▪︎ Sugarcane 290 gms ▪︎ Bamboo 265 gms ▪︎ Agave 290 gms👍 ▪︎ Britannia 300 gms hot pressed ▪︎ Watercolour 300 gms hot pressed👍 The Harmony papers are to my liking and the Agave paper surprised me positively because it is suitable for all kind of watercolour techniques. I also liked the texture (cold pressed). The paper called Watercolour paper 300 gms was also to my liking. Sugarcane was ok as well as the Britannia paper (but not my favourites), whereas the Bamboo paper turned out to be the weakest in taking water/layers and I saw a lack of brightness in colour compared to the other papers. 🔹️Here the Clairefontaine papers: ▪︎ Fontaine 300 gms cold pressed, cotton 👍 ▪︎ Aquapad 300 gms, cellulose 👍 Out of all 9 tested papers the Fontaine paper was my personal favourite in brightness of colour, in wet-in-wet and in softening edges. Lifting colour is possible. I like the grainy texture. Very pleasant to work with. The Aquapad is a new revelation to me although it is a more affordable cellulose paper. It worked very nicely wet-in-wet and has a pleasant light grainy texture. Best suitable for study work, a paper with an excellent quality-price ratio. Please note that this is my personal opinion. You can see my thumbs up for those I would recommend for watercolours. If you like smooth papers the Hahnemühle hot pressed might be your choice and if you like cold pressed, textured paper, like me, the Clairefontaine papers I tested might be for you. Das Hahnemühle Watercolour Sketchbook 250 g/qm kostet mittlerweile über 50€ - ein hoher Preis, der es mir aber wert ist, wenn die Qualität stimmt! Das Papier hat hervorragende Eigenschaften für das mehrschichtige Arbeiten mit Aquarell und gerade darauf kommt es mir an. Ich empfehle dieses Buch trotz des hohen Preises meinen Kursteilnehmer*innen, weil es insbesondere Anfänger*innen hilft, schnell Fortschritte zu erzielen und es zu weniger Frustrationen bei den Aquarell Basics kommt. Leider musste ich bei der letzten Bestellung feststellen, dass es seit kurzem Qualitätseinbußen beim Herstellungsprozess gibt. Das ist sehr bedauerlich, zumal es in Deutschland kaum vergleichbare Alternativen gibt. Sollte die Qualität dauerhaft nachlassen, wird mir nichts anderes übrig bleiben als zukünftig im Ausland zu ordern … Wie sind Eure Erfahrungen? Welche Alternativen könnt Ihr empfehlen?
