I remember seeing a woman do a handstand press years and years ago and I was mesmerized 😍 I was 30 and decided I wanted to learn how to handstand and maybe, even eventually press up one day!
I sucked…
I fell… 17 million times. But I was committed. I still am.
To all the people who ask me about handstands and how to learn; consistency is the key. Patience, practice, discipline and also being honest about where you are physically, also play a massive role. Sometimes my hand balancing practice looks like flexibility, mobility and strength work, because it’s all intertwined. Foundation is essential. Build from level one to ten - don’t start at 8, 9 or 10. ✨

Like♥️SAVE🔖SHARE👯! Did you know that weak hip flexors could be the cause of your back or knee pain?😱
I was in a car accident at age 19 and ended up with 2 herniated discs and a sprained knee that caused YEARS of pain!
It wasn’t until 20 years later 😱 that I randomly found the art of hand balancing and was introduced to this awesome core & hip flexor strengthening drill.🙃
Not only did my handstand improve, but my quads became more toned, and my low back pain and knee pain disappeared!🙌🏻😁
Many years of stretching and not strengthening my hip flexors had lead to imbalances in my body.
These imbalances made my knees and back hurt from simple things like standing on my feet for more than 15 minutes at a time.
Does your back and knees hurt from standing?
Give these a try and let me know in the comments if you want me to post a beginner version!

2 weeks ago I thought I couldn’t complete ONE handstand push-up (on hand balancing canes) and it made me really disappointed in myself. I thought I was too weak in the moment. Today I’ve probably done 20 or so, with this being my best attempt at 5 in a row. My form is sloppy, and I’m not touching my nose to the floor like I used to require of myself, but this was movement that made me happy 😊
Super thankful for @inspirerockcypress and the training space that always leaves me feeling INSPIRED ✨
What academic and training path did you follow?
Shoutout to @alessia.autiero for asking! If you want your question answered, keep an eye out for the question boxes I put in my stories!
Academic: bachelor of science (rehab science major) -> doctor of physical therapy -> orthopedic residency program to get my orthopedic clinical specialist certification
Training: gymnastics -> gymnastics + lifting -> running + lifting -> running + lifting + calisthenics -> running + lifting + cali + hand balancing -> running + lifting + cali + hand balancing + ninja
Right now, I’m a little more focused on cali and hand balancing, but I still run (more so jogging and sprints for cardiovascular health) and lift to work accessory muscles and lower body strength.
If you want to learn more from me, check out my programs, educational resources, and entire exercise library in the Paradigm of Perfection + Train App! Right now, I’m adding 6 videos on core control and having a live Q&A call in the Facebook group each week (for 3 weeks). The first 2 videos of the series are in the app and the first live call is this weekend, so make sure you join now so you don’t miss it!

What is the #1 component in a handstand?
FINGERS! It’s called hand balancing for a reason 🫣

90 degree handstand push-up.
When I first saw someone do this push-up, I could not even do a handstand. I thought there would be ZERO chance that I could ever do it. However, about 5 years ago I did my first one and ever since I have tried to keep it in my strength toolbox. It takes me about 20-30 minutes to warm up enough to get a successful rep.
Today, I had one fail (at the end of the video) before this successful rep.
Hand balancing may seem like a childish pursuit however, they are anything but. I can’t recommend a handstand practice enough, it’s a fun way to get strong, fit and engage your mind.
Handstands are an infinite skill, you can never be ‘the best’ but you can grow, learn new skills and have a lot of fun in the process 🙌🏼

This challenge requires top-tier flexibility, strength, & balance. ⚖️💪🏾💯

I’ve decided it’s time I take my rather static hand balancing skills and make them more explosive and dynamic 😁

In my physical practice, I follow a simple yet comprehensive program designed by @miguel_hand_balance who works with me on my hand balancing and @lucasbrianrobinson who works with me on building my body to continue to develop that which lights me up.
I, although biased, believe their programming is masterful, but only as valuable as I am willing to participate, immerse myself, and surrender to their guidance.
Having a practice that allows you to enter a space where, although challenging, you can fully trust, is a life giving experience. Over time, seeing results is simply an added bonus.
