#Hoard
This is something very hard for me to share but I felt called to finally speak on this today because I know there are probably so many people who can relate to my story. The point of this video is to never shame, but to take what l’ve learned to do better for myself, my future kids and family. I’ll do my best to continue to share more of what’s helped me to hopefully inspire all of you to be your best self, even when it is hard🤍

The Silverdale Hoard, c.900-910.
Discovered by detectorist Darren Webster in 2011, the hoard consists of 201 pieces of silver including 10 arm rings, 27 coins, 2 finger rings, 14 ingots, a quantity of hack silver, and the lead container it was originally buried in.
Three of the arm rings are outstanding, fitting together in a ‘nest’ and decorated with animal head terminals.
The hoard coins come from a mix of cultures - Anglo-Saxon, Viking, Frankish, and Islamic. One coin (shown at the end) is a penny of Harthacnut, a previously unknown Northumbrian Viking ruler. The inscription reads ‘AIRDECONUT’ on the front and ‘DNS REX’ in the form of a cross on the reverse.
Tests carried out on one of the silver ingots shows that it was made from melted down Islamic dirhams, whilst other ingots in the hoard were made from Western European and Islamic silver mixed together.
Hoards like this one show silver sources originating far beyond Europe (in this case Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran), but whether the Viking traders went to these countries is another question - does anybody have any sources for this?
The hoard has recently been on display in Liverpool as part of the Treasure: History Unearthed exhibition, and is owned by the Lancashire County Museum Service. I’m not too sure where it will be displayed next?

I’d say I’m “dusting off the dollhouse atm”, only if it weren’t so gloriously dusty 🖤
