2 months down, many more to come…
It’s been so easy to look round this house and focus only on what needs doing and the overwhelming list of jobs but it’s been lovely to have a look at what we’ve achieved since we moved in.
In the next month we are aiming to have decorated the living room and finished the nursery - cutting it fine but pressure is a good thing round here 😅

Welcome to episode 1 of Building Our Dream Home 🏡🔨
Feeling quite overwhelmed by the project ahead but over the moon that we bought our first home 🥹
P.S. I promise this is not about to become a renovation or interiors account 🙂↔️ I’ll share some of the bigger updates on here but we’ve set up a separate page for those of you who want to follow the journey in more detail like our plans, interior decisions and (hopefully) some satisfying before & afters. Follow along at @thewallacesathome 🏡
Pps. If you’ve done a reno before, we would love (LOVE!!) all your advice 💬

Renovating this little Irish cottage has been the biggest learning curve 🏡
There’s so much no one tells you about - especially the organising and budgeting side of it.
Sharing something I genuinely wish I’d known at the very start in today’s reel 🤍
If you’re at the beginning stage of a build, it might help you @chadwicks_ie 🤍AD

👀 Thinking of buying a new build? Let us tell you why we took one look at the options locally and said ABSOLUTELY NOPE… then rolled up our sleeves and built our own dream home instead 🏡
Here’s the truth that not enough people talk about: industry stats show 90% of new build owners face snagging issues in their first year!! From wonky fixtures to water leaks and unfinished details. We weren’t willing to gamble on that ❌
Instead, we designed EVERY single element to fit our life perfectly:
🌿 Spacious open-plan living that’s made for hosting family and friends
🌳 A 100m private drive that gives us total privacy
🚘 Parking for 8 vehicles – perfect for our crew and visitors
🌤️ And the biggest perk? We’re just minutes from the coast 🐚
We went with an ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork) build paired with a full solar system, it’s far more energy-efficient than traditional brick & block, and we’ve calculated we’ll save OVER £100k compared to buying a comparable new build in our area 💰
We’ll be honest… self-build isn’t a walk in the park. There were late nights, tough decisions, and moments we wondered if we’d bitten off more than we could chew. But every single challenge was worth it to create something that’s 100% us ✨
💬 Drop a comment below if you’re stuck between self build and new build, we’ve been there, and we’d love to share what we’ve learned!

How much does a house price normally increase by? Will this be achievable?

Front garden makeover. It was so disgusting. Full of junk and so sad. I put in New Guinea impatiens in sonic magic pink to match my pink azaleas 🌸 #housereno #garden #renovation
Tell me this hasn’t happened to you 😭
