#AbbViePartner | Stuck in production today, but it got me thinking... What’s my future self going to say? 🤔 I’ve teamed up with @abbvie for AbbVie’s Beyond a Gut Feeling campaign to talk about long-term goals for managing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). I learned that what’s important is not how I’m feeling now… it’s about the long haul. With the help of my doctor, I switched my focus from just symptom management to also include reducing inflammation, reducing damage to the intestinal lining, and improving overall health. I took longer than needed but, if you’re living with IBD, your future self would thank you now if you started earlier.
This video might be a little lighthearted, but the message behind it is serious: if you are living with Crohn’s disease like me, or ulcerative colitis, it’s time to add long-term goals to your disease management plan to decrease your risk of flares and help improve your overall health.
I’m proud to be a part of this campaign because IBD is #BeyondAGutFeeling. It’s about taking control of your IBD goals and working with a gastroenterologist to create a plan that works for you.

“Mom, you stink.”
Imagine a child saying that.
Not out of cruelty, but because there are no stoma supplies.
In this week’s episode of The Survival Project, we talk about the brutal reality of living with an ostomy in parts of the world where basic medical supplies aren’t accessible.
No bags.
No education.
No follow-up care.
Just plastic bags, isolation, and preventable shame.
If you live with a stoma, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, or colorectal cancer, you know how much dignity depends on having the right supplies. Now imagine navigating that without access to them.
This conversation goes beyond IBD awareness. It’s about global health inequality, medical waste, and restoring dignity to people who never asked for this condition.

No surgery , no solution? The medical field is always changing and nothing is definitive. Always do your homework. If your team is giving you definitives, push them for more explanations. #ibdwarrior #ibdmom #ibd awareness
If I could tell the girl that thought she was dying that day that she would be prancing around her kitchen all happy and healthy in a sophisticated (and midriff baring) two piece exactly one year later I wouldn’t have believed it.
I couldn’t tell her…because I don’t have magical powers giving me foresight, but I can tell you instead. If anyone out there is facing the reality of having an ileostomy bag fitted to their tummy, let me stand here with pride, as a spokesperson or a beacon of hope to tell you that this isn’t the end of your life, it’s just the beginning of a new one.
You can still be
Intelligent
Glamorous
Successful
Attractive
Or any adjective that takes your fancy with a stoma bag.
… we do not be defined by our differences.
The only thing we need to hold onto are the powerful stories of survival we have sat (literally and metaphorically) under our belts. X

But in all seriousness, it’s okay to talk about our urgency issues. Shit happens for everyone, we might just have to deal more often.
Planning our activities around available bathrooms is a thing, so make sure to let people know what you need.
