Loc maturity isn’t about time alone — it’s about texture, structure, and stability. Here’s how you know you’ve moved out of the “starter” phase and into mature loc territory: 1️⃣ They Feel Firm (Not Puffy or Soft) Starter locs are soft and fluffy. Mature locs feel compact and solid from root to tip. They don’t unravel easily when washed. 2️⃣ Minimal Frizz at the Shaft You’ll always have some surface frizz — that’s normal. But mature locs don’t look fuzzy all the way down the strand anymore. The hair has fully meshed together. 3️⃣ Budding Is Complete In earlier stages, you see swelling or “buds” along the shaft. When mature, that swelling smooths out and becomes uniform. 4️⃣ They Don’t Shrink As Much Baby locs shrink dramatically. Mature locs still shrink some (especially curly textures), but not as dramatically. #microlocs #choppedhairandspa #locjourney #interlocs

Lately I've been receiving loads of questions and comments about my Sisterlocks so I figured I'd share a lil bit: 1) if you've sitting on the fence about getting them, watch some YouTube videos and ask others about their experiences 2) my biggest regret about my Sisterlocks is not getting them done sooner 3) I did have an "awkward phase" at the beginning and being prepared for it made it easier to manage 4) the Sisterlocks installation can be pretty pricey & take several hours but it was 100% worth it for me 5) they are very low maintenance but you need to get them re-tightened every 6-8 weeks or so 6) for someone who wore wigs/weaves/braids and pretty much every style, I've never been prouder of the authenticity, freedom, and uniqueness of my hair before Black hair can be complicated and I'm grateful that my journey has brought me to the place I am now. I haven’t been on my #locjourney that long but it’s been an interesting one and quite a learning experience! I started these locs with #interlocs. My sister started them for me and told me to #trusttheprocess! She’s said I promise in a few months they will thicken and fluff up! I opted to start this way so I could have #instantlocs. (Fun fact, I actually had started #combcoils about a month before but decided to comb them out and do #interlocking instead.) Then I went through a period where I wasn’t keeping up with my hair maintenance 🥴 and I noticed some breakage (see my hair loss highlight for the details.) So, when I got back on track with my #locmaintenance this summer I switched over to the #combtwist method for maintenance. I also added 3 new locs to the party 🎉 due to my hair filling in in certain areas 🙌🏽 (see my last loc video for the details.) This is my 5th session with @candytreats and if you’ve seen my previous videos, you know I can’t say enough good things about her. She has a beautiful spirit and gifted hands!
