Join us on our Sunday trail of Indian crafts. Today, we wander to Bagru - a village on the outskirts of Jaipur where time seems to have stood still. Bagru is not just a place, it is a living museum of natural dyeing and block printing, sustained for centuries by the Chhipa community.
Here, prints are still carved on wooden blocks by hand. Fabrics are dipped, sun-dried, and stamped in family courtyards the way they were hundreds of years ago. There is no hurry, no shortcut, no machinery to erase the touch of the human hand.
And yet, in this timelessness lies both beauty and irony. While the world races forward, Bagru stays where it has always been — steeped in tradition, but also weighed down by the absence of meaningful change for the people who carry these crafts forward.
Bagru is a reminder of what India does best: create with patience, with purpose, with soul. But it is also a call to reflect - how do we honour such legacies not only with admiration, but with support that helps them thrive in today’s world?
At Pinklay, we extensively engage with the community in Bagru to create Indigo, dabu and Bagru.

How do you integrate craft, community and culture through your design language?
“Being a textile-led brand, Indian crafts are at the core of EKÁ’s design DNA. We work with a lot of weaving communities and crafts people across the country and each season, there is a commitment to contribute to the livelihood of these weaves. In this process of close interactions with them, we end up exploring design developments which help build the existing brand vocabulary that we keep recalling every season in the form of new motifs, palettes and silhouettes. This is an ongoing process to strengthen the brand language which is done in collaboration with the weavers and the crafts people, eventually building a community that our brand represents.
Additionally, our visual communication through our shoot campaigns, storytelling and building new looks around it, further solidifies our brand story where people start resonating with Eka and its cultural essence. Connecting all the dots, the craft gets connected to the brand which creates a culture, all of which comes together to build a strong community“ shares Rina
#OgaanDesignFamily We talked to Rina Singh (@rinasing09) about how she she is working with craft and community for her label EKÁ (@ekaco)

B is for Bagh. 🌿 [A-Z of Indian Crafts: Episode 2.
“Heated by fire. Born from fire.” The result is not just a print… it is a record of everything.
Located in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, authentic Bagh printing is a true masterpiece of nature, preserved for centuries by the master artisans of the traditional Khatri community.
Today, we take you to the banks of the Bagh River to see what happens when these artisans create a garment the traditional way:
⏳ Days 1-3: Fabric is soaked and treated with natural mordants.
✋ Days 4-10: Teakwood blocks (Thappas) are hand-pressed into the fabric—carrying patterns memorized across generations by Khatri craftsmen.
🔥 Days 11-14: Fabric is boiled in natural dye vats over traditional fires, using only iron rust, alizarin, and pomegranate.
☀️ Days 15-21: Washed in the copper-rich river and sun-dried to lock in the rich hues.
Total: 14 to 21 DAYS.
Meanwhile, mass-produced “printed” sarees? Made in 2 hours. Chemicals. Machines.
True luxury isn’t made in a factory; it is born from the elements and the hands of generational artisans. This is Bagh Print. Each craft. Each timeline. Each story. 🌍
📌 Save this Reel as a tribute to the beautiful science and soul behind Indian handlooms.

India was never meant to be undervalued.✨🧵
Not when every textile holds generations of skill.🪡
Not when craft is created slowly, intentionally, by hand.
From handblock printing to natural dyeing, from intricate weaves to detailed embroideries, Indian crafts were built on richness, not restraint.
In a world chasing minimalism, we’re choosing to remember where we come from.❤️
This is Indian crafts, vanishing textiles of India,
and stories that deserve to be seen, valued, and kept alive.💯
