Last week our communities in West Hants received clarity on the future of twinning Highway 101.
@nsgov will construct a new aboiteau that will allow for a brackish lake scenario.
We can and will improve public safety on Highway 101, improve fish passage at the Windsor Causeway, protect access to freshwater, and respect Indigenous rights.
As your MP, I have been vocal and active on the file. I will continue to remain steadfast in my advocacy until the project is completed.
New Zealand’s Parliament Just Turned Into a Stage for a Powerful Māori Protest. 🇳🇿🔥 A parliamentary vote was suddenly suspended after Māori lawmakers performed a dramatic haka inside New Zealand’s Parliament, protesting a controversial proposed law that seeks to redefine the principles of the country’s founding agreement between Māori and the British Crown. The powerful performance brought proceedings to a standstill as lawmakers used the traditional Māori ceremonial dance to express their opposition to the legislation. Two lawmakers were ultimately ejected from the chamber as tensions escalated. At the center of the controversy is the Treaty of Waitangi, signed in 1840 and widely regarded as a foundational document in New Zealand’s history. The proposed legislation has sparked intense debate over how the treaty’s principles should be interpreted and applied today. The haka was more than a political protest—it was a highly symbolic display of cultural identity, history, and resistance inside the heart of New Zealand’s government. The extraordinary scene quickly captured international attention, showing just how deeply questions of Indigenous rights, national identity, and history can resonate in modern politics. 🇳🇿 A moment of protest, culture, and politics unlike anything you see every day. “They offered us a way of seeing.”
Gathering first-hand accounts of the impacts of climate change across the Pacific, @julianaguon and his team heard about the loss of crops and coastlines, alongside threats to Indigenous rights and cultures.
In his Right Livelihood Award acceptance speech, Julian reflected on the knowledge these communities shared, and why listening meant more than translating their stories into legal language.
With 3️⃣ weeks to go until the 2026 Laureates announcement, we’re looking back at messages from last year’s recipients — and what drives their work ✊
Who will join them this year?

The Liberals were court-ordered to pass clean water legislation for First Nations after they were sued into action by a class action lawsuit. But through Bill C-37, Carney’s government is still violating the human right to clean water for First Nations.
Yesterday I addressed the Assembly of First Nations' Annual General Assembly, where Chiefs from far and wide agreed the government’s failure to respect First Nations' jurisdiction and to recognize their human right to clean drinking water is unacceptable.
Now is our time to act. This Liberal government is going further than the Harper Conservatives in violating Indigenous rights, and just like with Idle No More, we need to show that we will not let our rights be walked over.
To learn more about how you can push back against Bill C-37 and uphold the right to clean water for all, follow the link in my profile bio.
This is Gina Rinehart — One Nation’s main donor and Pauline Hanson’s close friend who helps shape party policy.
Her father, Lang Hancock, in 1981: suggested rounding up Aboriginal people and putting chemicals in their water to sterilise them.
Typical mono-cultural racists: first it was Aboriginal people, then Asians, then Africans. Before Indigenous rights, they had issues with Greeks and Italians. The list always continues.#paulinhanson #auspol #onenation #labor
@hindououmar is an Indigenous rights and climate justice activist from the Mbororo pastoralist community in Chad, and founder of the Association for Indigenous Women and Peoples of Chad.
As one of the @planetaryguardians her work connects ancestral knowledge with climate action, advocating for Indigenous communities to have a seat at the decision-making table while protecting land, water, biodiversity, and cultural traditions.
Through her leadership, Hindou continues to show that Indigenous knowledge is not only vital to protecting ecosystems, but essential to shaping a more balanced and sustainable future for all.
Her message is clear: nature cannot be protected without the people who have lived in relationship with it for generations.

All major projects will only proceed after meaningful consultation with Indigenous People. That’s why Budget 2025 makes key investments to improve the government’s consultation protocols. We cannot and will not move forward at the expense of Indigenous Rights. // Tous les grands projets ne pourront aller de l’avant qu’après une consultation véritable avec les peuples autochtones. C’est pourquoi le budget 2025 prévoit des investissements clés pour améliorer les protocoles de consultation du gouvernement. Germany is known for some of the world’s most stringent environmental regulations. Yet in Topolobampo, Mexico, local communities continue to raise concerns about an ammonia megaproject planned next to a fragile coastal ecosystem and Indigenous territory.
This debate goes beyond one industrial plant. It raises questions about environmental justice, Indigenous rights, biodiversity, and who bears the costs of development.

hey people, it’s time to fight BACK
because privatization doesn’t benefit us, instead it leads to more emissions, less climate action and adaptation, more costs for regular people, less equality, and is fundamentally undemocratic
& what we need more than ever is a future determined democratically, with social and ecological benefit put over private profit!!!
not one of more corporate power, more military, less environmental protections and a backslide on Indigenous rights… (which is where we’re currently headed)
instead of the Canada Investment Summit, we’re joining the Many Vs the Money Summit 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️✨

Indigenous food 😍 The restaurant is @tea_n_bannock in Toronto, Canada - they’re currently looking for a new location and hoping to reopen in spring 2026!
🌽 What is Indigenous food? There is no one unified Indigenous cuisine - that would be like trying to talk about “European food”, for example.
I touch briefly on the topic of federal recognition. Its absence cuts hundreds of Indigenous communities off from potentially life-saving government support - this was a big discussion in the US in particular during the pandemic. I encourage you to do more research on this topic as it reveals many layers of forced legal marginalisation.
I’ve been doing a lot of research into Indigenous rights and would love to create more content on the topic. Please let me know all your questions 🩷 #indigenous #indigenousrights #indigenouslivesmatter
