365 days of fades in 30 seconds... At the start of June 2024, I registered to enter the 3rd annual @indigoinvitational Redline Rally fading competition. My goal was to wear a single Iron Heart jacket as much as possible for a whole year, taking a photograph each day I was in the office to document its fade journey. As for the jacket itself, I chose our 14oz selvedge denim work jacket (IHJ-122) because a) it’s one of the more unique Iron Heart cuts, and b) this was the first time we’d used a broken twill (zig-zag weave) denim, and I was curious to see how it would evolve compared to a standard twill. Over the course of the year, I managed to get in around 6–10 hours of wear most days and washed the jacket about once a month on average to keep it fresh. Now that my year in the 122 is finally over, I thought it’d be cool to share the jacket’s evolution with you all. I’m super pleased with how it turned out, but let us know what you think. Late 2023, I painstakingly drafted/sewed my first pair of raw denim jeans (only took me 70hrs 😵‍💫) and proceeded to wear them nearly every day in 2024. It was my second time entering a minimalistic, yearlong raw denim fading competition called the @indigoinvitational - in which thousands of people around the world start with a pair of new jeans and wear them as much as possible for 365 days. Raw denim is its own world of intrigue that’s starts a uniformly dark and inky indigo but in time reflects unique wear patterns specific to each individual’s life and style. This past year in my handmade and heavily mended jeans, I came in 3rd and ended as the first woman to place in their 4 years running. The 5th year of the contest is about to start on 9/1 and I’d love to see more women consider it so thought I’d post. I found it a very worthwhile, eye opening exercise in extreme minimalism that impacted me positively in many aspects of my life. Plus - one less crippling decision of ‘what the hell do I wear’ everyday 😂 If you’d like recommendations on raw denim jeans for women let me know, I’ll share a document I’ve been writing on the subject (when I finish it - hopefully tomorrow 😅).
