As my kids grow, I’m thinking ahead to when they may have social media. I recently went to @instagram Safety Camp & here’s 4 key learnings for Teen Accounts to help keep your teens safer online which now automatically apply anti-bullying controls & it’s smarter than you think.. 1. Parental Supervision You can now link your Instagram to your teen’s through simply through the Family Centre in the app. Which gives you visibility into how they’re using the platform & lets you customise safety settings that suit your family. 2. Hidden Words Protecting your teens from harmful or abusive messages. Instagram automatically filters out offensive words in DMs & comments before your teen has the chance to ever see them. 3. Sleep Mode: A game changer! You can pause their access to Instagram during downtimes or sleep hours. Less late-night scrolling. More actual sleep. You set the times.. 4: No Age Switching If your Worried your teen might try to change their age to unlock older settings? Instagram’s onto it. They use AI to detect if someone’s lying about their age, based on activity, who they follow & even the content they post. If something seems off, they’ll ask for ID or restrict access. Faking your age is much harder now. It’s not easy to keep updated online but these evolving safety tools from @instagram are a great start to help you & your teens in the process.
