Never introduce yourself in an interview like this, my friend. The interview starts with the most underrated question: tell me about yourself. And most people answer it the exact same way. “My name is this. I studied at this college. I am from this city. I have this many years of experience. Thank you.” That is not an introduction. That is a CV being read out loud. ✦ The interviewer already has your CV. He does not need you to narrate it back to him. This question is not a formality. It is the first test — and most people fail it before the interview has even started. Here is what a great answer actually does. It tells a story. Not your life story — one specific story that explains who you are, what you are good at, and why you are sitting in that chair. It connects your past to this exact role in a way that makes the interviewer think: “This man knows exactly why he is here.” ✦ Something like this: “I have spent the last three years building sales teams from scratch in early-stage startups. I have made every mistake possible, learnt what actually moves the numbers, and I am now at a point where I want to bring that experience to a company that is ready to scale. That is why I applied here.” Sixty seconds. No hometown. No college name, unless it is relevant. Just clarity, confidence, and a reason you belong in that room. ✦ The first thirty seconds of an interview set the tone for everything that follows, my friend. Own them. After 20+ years in recruiting, I’ve interviewed thousands of candidates. And here’s something most people don’t realize: The interview starts before the “real” questions do. You walk in. They offer you water. You’re shown where to sit. There’s an awkward pause. Someone makes small talk. Those moments may feel meaningless… But they can reveal a lot about how comfortable you are under mild pressure. Not because accepting water is some secret hiring test. It isn’t. What matters is HOW you handle the moment. Do you instantly say yes because you think that’s what they want? Do you over-explain why you don’t want it? Do you look uncomfortable making a simple decision? Or do you just decide? “Water would be great, thank you.” Or: “No thanks, I’m good.” Then move on. That sounds ridiculously simple. But confidence often looks simple. Strong candidates don’t spend the entire interview trying to perform the “correct” behavior. They listen. They think. They answer. They’re comfortable with a little silence. And they don’t apologize for every decision they make. That same behavior shows up later when I ask: “What salary are you looking for?” “Why are you leaving?” “Are you interviewing elsewhere?” “Do you have any questions for me?” The lesson has nothing to do with water. It’s this: Stop trying to guess what the interviewer wants you to say. Listen to the question. Think. Then answer like someone who knows what they want. That kind of composure gets noticed. 💬 Would YOU accept the water? Comment YES or NO below 👇 💾 Save this before your next interview. ✈️ And send it to someone who overthinks EVERY interview question. 😂 #interviewtips #jobsearch #careeradvice #hiring #recruiting

1. “Why is there a gap in your resume?” Don’t panic. Own it. “I used that time to upskill in AI and stay ahead of where the industry is heading. I’m now ready to bring those skills directly into this role.” 2. “Why are you leaving your current job?” Never trash your old company. Redirect to growth. “I’ve genuinely learned a lot there — but I’ve hit a ceiling. I’m looking for an environment where I can take on bigger challenges and align with my long-term goals.” 3. “What are your salary expectations?” Never lowball yourself. Come prepared. “Based on my research and the scope of this role, I’m looking at [X–Y range]. I’m open to discussing the full package.” 4. “What are your hobbies?” This isn’t small talk — it’s a culture fit test. “Outside work, I [hobby] — which has actually helped me build [relevant skill]. It keeps me sharp and balanced.” The answers aren’t just honest — they’re strategic. Every response should show self-awareness AND value. Save this before your next interview. 🔖 #interviewtips #joboffer #jobsearch
