Longtime fans of @q39kc , so seeing them open in Lawrence feels like a full-circle moment. And during Women’s History Month, it’s also the perfect time to spotlight the woman leading it all — Kelly Magee. @q39kc started on the BBQ competition circuit before becoming one of the most loved Kansas City BBQ restaurants. After losing her husband and co-founder Rob in 2021, Kelly stepped in to lead the brand and carry forward their chef-driven, pit-to-plate BBQ legacy. Now that legacy has a new home near Mass Street in Lawrence. What we ordered: 🔥 ribs, burnt ends & brisket 🥩 KC strip steak 🥗 mac & cheese, potato salad, pasta salad, fries And for dessert, honey-soaked bread pudding bites (they almost look like burnt ends at first glance) and banana pudding. Kansas City... is 1587 Prime actually worth the hype? 👀 We finally tried this KC steakhouse for date night and I get it now… Incredible food, upscale atmosphere, live singers throughout the night (so good and didn’t overwhelm dinner), romantic vibes... and yes, I ordered the cocktail they lit on fire because obviously 🔥 If you’re looking for a Kansas City date night restaurant that feels elevated but still FUN, this is your spot.
