Science magic in the living room! ✨ We placed a messy loop of yarn on water, dipped a cotton swab in dish soap, and touched the center. And just like that—the loop snapped into a nearly perfect circle! 😮 The science behind it: Water molecules hold onto each other tightly, creating an invisible “skin” called surface tension. This uniform pulling force keeps the yarn loop relaxed and warbled. When you add dish soap to the center, it acts as a surfactant, breaking the water’s surface tension inside the loop. But because the surface tension outside the loop remains intact, it pulls outward with equal force in every direction. This even, omnidirectional tug stretches the loop into the shape that encloses the largest area for its length: a circle. So that satisfying little “magic trick” is really surface tension at work! 🎒☁️ Back-to-School DIY Series 6/7: 🌩️ THUNDERSTORM SCIENCE EXPERIMENT 🫙 Can we actually see the science behind a thunderstorm? ⛈️ This simple experiment gives kids a visual model of convection—one of the important processes that helps fuel developing thunderstorms! 🔥 What you see in the jar: • Hot, colored water rises because it is less dense. • Cooler water sinks. • This creates a convection current. 🌎 Now connect it to the real world: The Sun heats Earth’s surface, warming the air above it. When warm, moist air rises, it cools as it moves higher. That cooling can help clouds grow, and when the atmosphere has the right conditions, strong convection can help a thunderstorm develop. 🌩️ So that little red plume in the jar? 👉 It’s a simple model of the rising-and-sinking movement we see in the atmosphere. 🧠 Kids aren’t just memorizing “convection.” They can WATCH it happen. And that’s what makes this activity so exciting! 🎒 Back-to-School STEM Series Did you miss the other experiments? Comment “FISH” and I’ll send you the template. Fun fact: We first learned this song at Eva’s ballet class when she was 2, and it’s still one of our favorites. 🫠 #scienceforkids #stemactivities #kidsscience #toddleractivities #preschoolactivities
🐟 Magic Swimming Fish Experiment ✨ What You Need * Paper fish ( 200 GSM sheet) * Marker * Liquid soap * Tray of water 🧪 How to Do It 1. Draw and cut out a paper fish. 2. Dip only the tail in liquid soap. 3. Gently place it on the water. 4. Watch the fish swim forward! 🎓 Kids Will Learn 1. 🤔 Why did the paper fish start moving? ✅ Answer:Because the soap broke the water’s surface tension, making the fish move forward. 2. 💧 What happened when the soap touched the fish’s tail? ✅ Answer:It reduced the surface tension behind the fish, causing it to swim. 3. 🔄 Can we use the same water for the experiment again? Why? ✅ Answer: No. The soap spreads through the water and breaks the surface tension everywhere. 4. 🧪 What do you think will happen if no soap is used? ✅ Answer:The fish will stay still and will not move. 5. 🐠 What can you change to make this experiment different? ✅ Answer:Try different paper shapes, fish sizes, or add soap to different parts and observe what happens. 👇 Follow **@play_with_jihaan** for more easy, screen-free STEM activities and hands-on learning ideas for kids. #STEMForKids #KidsScience #ScienceExperiment #LearningThroughPlay #HandsOnLearning ScreenFreeActivities PreschoolActivities ToddlerActivities PlayWithJihaan EarlyLearning
The problem with most lava lamp experiments? You need to plan ahead 🛒 This version uses baking soda, oil and vinegar - things that are always in your cupboard. So when the kids ask 'Can we do science?' at 8 pm on a Tuesday, the answer is actually yes. No waiting for a shop run, no 'maybe tomorrow when we get tablets'. Just grab what you need and get messy. That's how science should work 💙 #kidsactivities #thedadlab #kidsscience
Such a simple science experiment, but so fun to watch! 💧 Add colored hot water to cold water and watch it rise and swirl as the temperatures meet. Such a fun visual way to explore density and convection with kids! 🧪✨ #KidsScience #ScienceExperiment #STEMActivities #LearningThroughPlay #KidsActivities
Who knew one tiny drop of dish soap could completely change what happens? 🤯🫧 This simple surface tension experiment is an easy way to introduce kids to science using items you already have at home. ✨ Try it together and ask your child: Why do you think the toothpicks suddenly stood up? 📌 Save this for your next STEM activity! 💛 Follow @thrivingwithgirls for simple science experiments kids will actually want to try. surface tension experiment, toothpick science experiment, dish soap experiment, easy STEM activity, kids science experiment, preschool science, toddler science, elementary science, kitchen science, simple science activities, hands on learning, homeschool science, screen free activities, fun science for kids, easy experiments at home, learning through play, curiosity based learning, science activity for kids, STEM for preschoolers, family science #STEMActivities #KidsScience #ScienceExperiment #EasySTEM #momlife

🍊 Why Does One Orange Float and the Other Sink? 🤔💦 The secret is the peel! 🧡 🍊 Unpeeled orange: The peel contains tiny air pockets, making the orange less dense than water—so it floats! 🍊 Peeled orange: Without the peel, the orange is denser than water—so it sinks! 🌊 ✨ Science is full of little surprises! Would you have guessed the answer? 👇 #BittyBrainiac #KidsScience #ScienceForKids #FunScience #KidsLearning
A Star Appears with Just Water!⭐️ 5 toothpicks + a little water = a surprising star! ✨ The toothpicks have tiny cracks in the middle. When water enters these cracks, the wood fibers absorb water and swell. This swelling creates a force that pushes the toothpick pieces apart, making them move outward and form a star shape. ⭐💧 It’s called capillary action and wood swelling! Simple setup, amazing science! 🔬🌟 Would you try this with your kids? #ScienceForKids #KidsScience #STEMForKids #STEMActivities #ScienceExperiment EasyScience SimpleScience FunScience ScienceIsFun LearningThroughPlay LearnThroughPlay KidsActivities EducationalActivities PreschoolActivities KindergartenActivities HomeschoolActivities ClassroomScience TeacherIdeas ScienceAtHome DIYScience HandsOnLearning CuriosityForKids ExploreScience WoodScience ToothpickExperiment WaterExperiment ScienceMagic FunLearning EducationalReels KidsReels TheAgTrio ReelsForKids ViralScience AmazingScience EverydayScience
