“It Makes Me Taller” #wait Sources- PMID 24002833 almostjas on TT Scoliosis can be congenital (in isolation or associated with syndromes) or acquired with skeletal disorders and functional issues like leg length discrepancy. The impact of this can be significant, leading to chronic pain, muscular imbalances, functional impairments & impacts on the cardiovascular and respiratory symptoms. In severe cases bronchial constriction and respiratory failure can occur. Finding and dealing with the underlying issue, seeking adequate physiotherapy or surgery if indicated is therefore a priority for these patients. #backpain #scoliosis #health
I had to take a little time off of running while I handled some medical appointments... I learned that my knee and hip pain is because I have leg length discrepancy. My left leg is 1.5cm longer which causes my hip to push up and over and my spine to push over. I got a few set of X-rays and a visit with a prosthetics place for an insole! I recently learned how to set up intervals on my watch which has been a game changer! I love that I'm back to running 💨 #running #runnersofinstagram #intervaltraining #slowrunner #trialreels
Leg length discrepancy after hip replacement can be influenced by surgical planning & approach, implant positioning and how leg length is assessed during surgery. The Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) allows the patient to lie on their back during surgery, and intraoperative imaging may help the surgeon assess leg length and implant positioning. 📄 Research on DAA and leg length discrepancy: 1. Study on leg length discrepancy after hip replacement (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8796547/) 2. Research published in PLOS ONE 2025 (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0318953) These studies examine leg length outcomes across surgical approaches. If you’re considering hip replacement, understanding how leg length is assessed during surgery is an important part of being informed about your treatment. Not everyone has legs that are exactly the same length. In some people, there is a true anatomical leg length discrepancy, where one leg is physically shorter than the other due to differences in bone length. When the difference is clinically significant, it can influence how forces are distributed through the feet, knees, hips, pelvis and lower back. For some patients, a heel lift may be recommended as part of their care plan. The aim isn’t to make anyone “perfectly symmetrical,” but to help improve balance, reduce unnecessary strain and support more comfortable movement where appropriate. A heel lift is never prescribed based on guesswork. Before recommending one, I carry out a thorough assessment to determine whether the difference is anatomical or simply the result of muscle imbalance, joint restriction or altered movement patterns. These are very different presentations and require different approaches. Heel lifts are just one tool that may be used alongside chiropractic care, rehabilitation exercises and advice tailored to the individual. Every person is different, which is why a comprehensive assessment is so important before deciding whether a heel lift is appropriate. 📚 Research Defrin, R., Ben Benyamin, S., Aldubi, R.D. and Pick, C.G. Here’s an easy way to measure if you have a difference in the length of your legs. If one leg is longer or shorter than the other it can really affect your gait pattern. A leg length discrepancy can also be the reason for back pain or knee pain. Try this measurement technique and let me know what you find out. It is easy to correct ✅ if you do have a difference in your leg length. #physicaltherapy #leglengthdiscrepancy #gait #gaitanalysis #kechiks
🦵 Limb Lengthening & Perceived Leg Length Discrepancy Why do some patients feel like their legs are different lengths during limb lengthening — even though there is actually no leg length discrepancy? 🤔 Dr. Becker explains why this sensation can occur during limb lengthening and what’s behind it. 👨‍⚕️🦴 🎥 Watch the video to learn more about limb lengthening! #limblengthening #beckerbetzinstitute #foryou #fy #viral
"Your leg is shorter, and that's why your back hurts." This is a common explanation people are given when they have back pain... but it’s not always that simple. A true leg length discrepancy needs to be assessed objectively and measured with actual numbers. Feeling around someone’s hips or noticing that one side looks higher is not enough to determine that one leg is shorter. And if there is a genuine difference, it’s important to remember that no amount of manipulation, adjustment, or “putting your hips back into place” can permanently change the length of your bones. The common-sense approach is to look at the size of the difference, whether it is actually relevant, and whether a simple solution is needed. For larger discrepancies where someone is symptomatic, options like a heel lift or having a cobbler increase the height of a shoe can address the mechanical difference far more logically than repeatedly trying to “fix” something that hasn’t changed. But for many people, a leg length difference is simply a normal variation and is unlikely to be the main driver of their pain. Pain is complex. Instead of chasing the thing that looks different, focus on understanding the whole picture. #BackPain #PainScience #ExercisePhysiology #EvidenceBasedRehab #MovementTherapy

Watch what happens when the shoes come off. That’s the whole video, honestly. Shoes on, you’d never guess. Shoes off, this is the truth — a leg length discrepancy I’ve lived with since 1994, still toe-walking on one side because my body never stopped adjusting for it. I’m not posting this for sympathy. I’m posting it because somewhere out there is someone doing this exact thing, being told it’s nothing, and I want them to know there’s a name for it — and there’s a fix. #LLDWarrior #MedicalGaslighting #DisabilityAdvocate #YouAreNotAlone
Think you have a leg length discrepancy? Before assuming one leg is actually longer, try this simple test. Many apparent leg length differences are functional, meaning they’re influenced by pelvic position, rotation, and movement patterns rather than the bones themselves. Watch the assessment and see what you find. Comment “LEG” if one side looked longer. #leglengthdiscrepancy #posture #mobility #movement #physicaltherapy
