When children receive positive reinforcement like praise, rewards, or privileges they’re more likely to exhibit desired behaviors and this is different from bribing.
Reinforcement is more effective than punishment. It creates a longer lasting change in behavior, it cultivates a positive relationship with your kids, and promotes self-esteem and confidence.
Here are the differences between bribing and a reinforcement system:
Bribing is a short term tactic that can actually undermine a child’s internal motivation and erode their trust since it can create a feeling of being used or controlled whereas, a reinforcement system is a plan used to encourage desired behaviors and strengthen positive habits. Rewards are only given after the desired behavior occurs. Whereas, rewards in bribing are given before the desired behavior occurs or to make an unwanted behavior stop.
