🚨 I genuinely didn’t know this before moving to Germany…
Apparently, Sunday is not just a “day off” here — noise can actually become a problem. 🇩🇪
Germany has Ruhezeiten (quiet periods), and your Hausordnung can also set specific rules about noise in your building. That means something as normal as vacuuming can become an issue if it disturbs your neighbours during protected quiet periods. 🫠
And before someone says “But I vacuum on Sundays!” — yes, the exact rules can depend on your location and your building’s rules. Check your Hausordnung before assuming it’s okay. 👀
Because honestly… these are the little Germany rules nobody tells you about when you move here. 😂
SAVE this if you live in Germany — you might need it before your next Sunday cleaning.
And SEND this to someone who just moved to Germany 😂🇩🇪

German birthdays are nothing like Indian birthdays… 🎂
When I first celebrated birthdays in Germany, a few traditions really caught me by surprise. If you’re moving there as a student or professional, here’s what you should know:
🎉 1. Never wish someone “Happy Birthday” before their actual birthday.
Many Germans believe it’s bad luck. Wait until the day arrives!
🍰 2. The birthday person brings the cake.
At universities and workplaces, it’s common for the person celebrating to bring cake, snacks, or sweets for everyone else—not the other way around.
💳 3. Don’t assume the birthday person is paying for everyone.
In India, if you invite friends out, it’s often expected that you’ll treat everyone. In Germany, it’s very common for each person to pay for their own food and drinks unless the invitation clearly mentions that it’s your treat. If you’re unsure, it’s completely normal to ask beforehand.
🎁 4. Gifts are usually thoughtful and practical.
Many people prefer useful or meaningful gifts over expensive ones, and friends often ask what you’d like instead of guessing.
🥂 5. Celebrations are often simple and intimate.
Instead of large birthday parties, many people celebrate with a small dinner, drinks, or a gathering with close friends and family.
📍These are based on my experience and the experiences of many other international students. Customs can differ across regions and friend groups, so your experience may vary.
