1. Fika isn’t optional anymore. It’s not really about the pastry — it’s how people here connect. Want to get to know someone? “Let’s grab a fika.” Even serious conversations happen over coffee and cinnamon buns. 2. Chasing every sunny day like it’s rare. After 2 Swedish winters, sunshine stopped being something I take for granted. The second it’s out, I drop everything and go outside. 3. Living surrounded by nature, all the time. Rabbits, squirrels, birds — just everywhere. I stopped noticing it as unusual, like I live inside nature instead of next to it. 4. Alcohol requires actual planning. Systembolaget has opening hours, so grabbing wine on the way home isn’t really a thing here. You either plan ahead, or you go without. 5. Sorting trash into way too many categories. Food waste, plastic, metal, paper, glass — it’s automatic now, even on vacation. My brain still tries to sort anyway. 6. Lagom mindset. Not too much, not too little. Nobody’s trying to be the most successful, the loudest, or the most impressive in the room — and somehow that takes so much pressure off. 7. Dressing for the actual temperature, not the calendar. The date means nothing here, only the thermometer. And the second it’s warm enough, breakfast and dinner move outside — balcony, garden, doesn’t matter, just outside. These are the habits I picked up in Sweden and I’ll keep them for the rest of my life. What’s a habit your new country gave you? #expatinsweden #lifeinsweden #lagom #swedishlifestyle #swedishculture
Did you know Sweden offers a residence permit that allows some highly qualified professionals to move to Sweden before finding a job? Here’s what you need to know 👇 ✅ Who is eligible? You may qualify if you: 🎓 Have a qualification equivalent to: • A 60-credit or 120-credit Master’s degree • An eligible professional degree • A postgraduate or PhD degree 🌍 Live outside Sweden when you apply. 📅 How long can you stay? You can receive a residence permit for up to 9 months to: ✔️ Look for a job ✔️ Attend interviews ✔️ Build your professional network ✔️ Explore starting your own business 💰 What else do you need? You must also: ✔️ Have enough savings to support yourself during your stay (at least SEK 13,000/month) ✔️ Have a valid passport ✔️ Have comprehensive health insurance (if required) ✔️ Be able to cover your return travel 💼 What happens if you find a job? If you receive a qualifying job offer while you’re in Sweden, you can apply for a Swedish work permit. ⚠️ Important This permit does not guarantee a job. If you don’t find employment (or meet the requirements to start a business) before your permit expires, you’ll generally need to leave Sweden. 🔗 The official application guide is in my Story! Not everyone qualifies, so always check the official requirements before applying. 📌 Save this post for later or share it with someone dreaming of moving to Sweden! 👉 @livingabroadinsweden for practical advice on building a life in Sweden 🇸🇪 #lifeinsweden #livingabroad #movetosweden #workpermit #visitsweden

POV: You’re raising a child the Nordic way 🇸🇪✨ Things that surprised me as a Filipina living in Sweden: ❄️ Kids play outside in almost any weather 🌲 Nature is part of everyday life 🧤 “There’s no bad weather, only bad clothes” 🥕 Children are encouraged to be independent 🧸 Play and imagination are valued 😴 Outdoor naps are normal in many preschools 👧 Kids are trusted to explore and learn It’s not about being tough — it’s about helping children feel confident, curious, and connected to nature 🌿 How is childhood different in your country? #NordicChildhood #RaisingKidsInSweden #FilipinaInSweden #LifeInSweden #ParentingAroundTheWorld

My contribution to Swedish meatball culture is confidently frying store-bought meatballs ✨ After years of living in Sweden, I’ve learned many things. Becoming a traditional Swedish cook was apparently not one of them. 😂 What’s one dish everyone assumes you can cook but absolutely cannot? ~~ Hej! if you’re new here, I’m a Canadian in Sweden sharing the simpler, softer side of Nordic lifestyle. Follow @mapleandmidnightsun for meaningful cultural stories, places worth experiencing, and the small things that make this country special.
Did you know Sweden has a dedicated butter knife 🧈 and a tool specifically for shaving cheese 🧀😂 And honestly… both are absolute game changers. But let me tell you, using the osthyvel (cheese slicer) for the first time is HUMBLING. 😂 You think, “How hard can slicing cheese be?” Then suddenly you’ve got a paper-thin slice, a chunk of cheese missing, and absolutely no idea what you’re doing. 😭😂 Do you use one of them?? #aussieabroad #lifeinsweden #mumlife #expatlife #familylife
If you’re looking for low prices AND a decent choice of properties, these are three areas worth putting on your radar: 🏡 1. Bergslagen – Hällefors & Ljusnarsberg Affordable houses, lots of older properties, large plots and beautiful forests. 🌲 🏡 2. Pajala Way up in northern Sweden, where property prices can be surprisingly low. Think space, nature and a completely different pace of life. ❄️🌲 🏡 3. Sollefteå One of the places in Sweden where your money can still go a long way. You can find larger houses, land and renovation projects at prices that would be difficult to imagine around a big city. ❤️ And here's the important part: Cheap doesn't automatically mean good value. Would you consider moving to one of these areas to get more house for your money? 🇸🇪 #Sweden #SwedenProperty #PropertyInSweden #CheapHouses #CheapProperty #MoveToSweden #SwedishHouse #SwedishCountryside #LifeInSweden #Bergslagen #Pajala #Sollefteå #SwedenRealEstate

Coming from Santa Barbara, California, I thought I knew beaches. But what surprised me most about Sweden wasn’t the coastline—it was the feeling. The wooden piers, the swimming ladders, the families, and the way everyone comes together to enjoy every sunny day. Swedish summers have a special kind of energy that’s hard to put into words. What’s your favorite part of a Swedish summer? #Sweden #SwedishSummer #LifeInSweden #AmericanInSweden #LostChefSweden
POV: You’re an Indian citizen… voting in Sweden 🇮🇳🇸🇪 But the real plot twist? 👀 I showed up to vote with SKINCARE PATCHES on. 😂 And somehow… that’s not even mentioned in the reel. Watch till the end and then tell me you noticed 👀😂 Indian abroad things are something else. 🇮🇳✨ #IndianInSweden #IndiansAbroad #SwedenLife #IndianLifeAbroad #LifeInSweden SEO keywords: Indian citizen in Sweden, Indian in Sweden, Indians abroad, life in Sweden, voting in Sweden, Indian expat in Sweden, Sweden lifestyle, living in Sweden, Indian expat life, desi in Sweden
