After living in the caravan for almost 12 months, we finally broke ground on 16th May 2022. None of us could have predicted how much trauma and loss we would suffer over those few years. Firstly, our son was in a serious road traffic accident that very nearly took his life, and then my mum passed very quickly after having been diagnosed with cancer. This was followed by our daughter being in hospital for 6 months and being so badly treated that she nearly lost her life. The final heart rendering blow came at Christmas 2023 when my lovely amazing husband lost his battle with cancer. He was so sad that he wasn't going to see the house finished when he had worked so hard on it. We managed to get it to a standard that he was able to spend the last week of his life in it, and I never moved back out. I have spent the last 17 months doing as much as I can, and although there is still lots to do, it's getting there. 2025 marks the first full year of my life without my mother in it. But also without my cycle (besides a month or 2 maybe 3) & without much tolerance. 🤪 Some days it’s unclear if I’m breaking free or breaking down. It’s been a year! But one thing is clear… I’m giving myself the space space to crumble space to heal space to figure it out space to rise space to thrive Somedays it’s messy & can feel impossible. Somedays it feels like everything has changed & yet so much remains the same. Somedays I feel like I don’t even know who I am anymore & others I feel more attuned than ever 🎢 So many big life things happened that of course the one person I wanted to sit with & talk to about how to navigate it all was the one person who knows me the best, my mom. But I can’t & that has been wildly painful. Through it all one thing has really shown up for me though… We often hesitate making big changes in our lives that are within our control but life throws us into big changes all the time that we then have to learn to do our best to navigate nothing in life is guaranteed & things can change in an instant Like the saying ‘you teach a kid to swim by throwing them in the deep end’ 😬 why hold yourself back from making a change that could change your life because at some point when you least expect it (& are way less ‘prepared’) life will through you into a change & you then have to learn to swim or you’ll sink. Think of all the times life threw you in the deep end (that’s what this last year has felt like for me in many ways) and you realized how strong of a swimmer you actually are. 🏊‍♀️ Let 2026 be the year you step into your power to choose doing life differently before you don’t have a choice in the matter. Sure, it can sometimes feel like life is happening to you but YOU are also happening to life.
