When we observe a star 80 light-years away, we’re actually seeing light that left it 80 years ago. Light travels at a finite speed, so the farther a star is, the older the image we see. Telescopes let us witness the history of the universe, showing stars and galaxies as they were long before we looked up.” #LightYears #Astronomy #SpaceFacts #Telescopes #universe

When you look at stars, you’re actually seeing them in the past. Because light takes time to travel, the starlight reaching your eyes tonight may have left years, centuries, or even millions of years ago. A star 100 light years away is seen exactly as it was 100 years in the past, making the night sky a real time window into cosmic history. The reason why aliens don't visit Earth is because of our dumbass editing😭😭 If an alien is 66 million light-years away, the light from Earth takes 66 million years to reach them. So when they zoom in on Earth today, they’re not seeing the present—they’re seeing Earth as it was 66 million years ago. And 66 million years ago on Earth? 🦖 That’s when dinosaurs were still alive, just before the asteroid impact that wiped them out. So to that alien, Earth looks like a dinosaur planet, even though for us, dinosaurs have been gone for millions of years. #aliens #dinosaurs #lightyears #timetravel #didyouknow
🚫 The nearest major galaxy — Andromeda Galaxy — is 2.5 million light-years away. Even if we traveled at the speed of light, the journey would take longer than human civilization has existed. #LightYears 🌌 🚀 Our fastest spacecraft would need tens of billions of years to get there — longer than the current age of the universe. Space isn’t just big… it’s brutally empty. #SpaceScale ⏳ 🧠 Relativity makes it even harsher: as you approach light speed, time and energy requirements explode, turning intergalactic travel into a physics nightmare. #Relativity ✨ And yet, that faint smudge in our sky is a future collision partner with the Milky Way — in about 4.5 billion years. We can’t reach it… but it’s coming to us. #cosmicfuture #interstellar

This animation shows where the exoplanet Proxima Centauri b can be located in the southern sky. This is the nearest exoplanet to Earth. It is only four light-years away! That seems very close, but if we could build a spacecraft that travels at the very fast speed of 60 000 km/h (the speed of the New Horizons probe), it would take us 80,000 years to reach Proxima Centauri b! 🚀 #SoCloseYetSoFar #Exoplanet #Proxima #ProximaCentauri #ProximaCentauriB #Astronomy #Universe #LearningEveryday #LightYears #Animation #Space
~~~~~~~~ Light travels at 299,792 km per second. Yet it still carries time. When you look at the sky, you are not seeing a star now. You are seeing its past. A person 80 light-years away would appear as they were 80 years ago. Science says: Time isn’t as linear as we think. Consciousness whispers: Maybe reality itself is delayed light. ✨ The universe is speed. ✨ Perception is time. #byvenuscat #scienceandconsciousness #lightyears #cosmicperspective #ışıkhızı

A giant star that is still being consumed by a supermassive black hole may have caused the largest flare of its kind ever seen, astronomers say. Click the link in our bio for more #Space #Blackholes #Blackhole #Astronomy #Supermassive #Cosmic #lightyears #Flare #Energy #Blast
NASA records the grungy, ambient sound of the black hole. Last year, we were invited to imagine what a black hole would sound like thanks to the release of Mikromedas AdS/CFT 001; an album by Belgian mathematician/electronic musician Valery Vermeulen with cosmologists Stephen Hawking and Thomas Hertog. Today, NASA has proven that sound waves do travel in space by releasing a recording of the black hole located in the Perseus galaxy cluster. Residing more than 200 million light years away from Earth, the Perseus galaxy cluster spans the width of 11 million light years. Don’t ask us to convert into kilometres, please. NASA makes the black hole’s sound audible to human ears by mixing it with “other data” and amplifying it, resulting in 30 seconds of deep space resonances probably good enough to sample in a track. 📌 LIGHT YEARS 🍴A La Carte Menu 🏷️ @lightyearsasiandiner Asian fusion🥢 dinner with the girlies @thechompingqueen, @dottyqueen_the_foodie & @theseefooddiet_ We ordered the following dishes: - 🐟 Light years ceviche - 🍆 Miso eggplant - 🍤 Tempura honey & sesame prawns - 🐷 Crispy masterstock pork belly - 🍢 Cumin lamb skewer pancake - 🍛 Wagyu beef rendang - 🍉 Watermelon salad - 🍚 Steamed rice Very pretty interior✨. My favourite dishes were the watermelon salad with nuoc cham (very refreshing & enjoyed the sweetness of the fruit with the umami saltiness of the sauce) & the cumin lamb skewers which was chargrilled🔥, juicy & flavoursome. The pork belly was more like a braised pork belly rather than crispy.
