It made me laugh because I know it's a running joke in long-term care. đŸ€Ł But here's my perspective... If you're only visible when surveyors arrive, you've already missed one of the biggest opportunities to lead. Your residents deserve to see leadership. Your staff deserve support before there's a problem. And the best survey preparation doesn't start when the surveyors walk through the door—it happens every single day. You can't lead a nursing home from behind your office door. CMS repealed the 2024 minimum staffing standards for long-term care facilities. Gone: the 3.48 total nursing hours per resident day, the 0.55 RN hours, the 2.45 nurse aide hours, and the 24/7 onsite RN requirement. The federal floor reverts to an RN for eight consecutive hours a day, seven days a week, plus a full-time director of nursing. Effective February 2, 2026. The NDP is cancelling 7 long-term care projects in the 2026 budget. Not only would these facilities have provided care for seniors they would have gone a long way toward reducing the issue of overcapacity hospitals.
