Cornflowers and Nigella will be going outside very soon.
These were sown in October and the second batch will be ready in early May.

They don’t like root disturbance so try one seed to a small cell or mini soil blocks are perfect too. They are much tougher than they look so try sowing them direct into your flower beds now and again in the autumn. This is one seed that I sow in March and then don’t succession sow as I find the stems are too short for bouquets.

When life gives you lemons…
With so much of our tiny flower farm recovering from the major earthworks we had done as part of our reno, I'm desperate for some serious floral abundance. Instead of working to improve the soil, I'm leaning into it and planting flowers that love a bit of tough love — soil wise — Nigella and Paper Daisies.
.
Both are perfect to plant right now throughout Australia. Comment TOP 5 for my top 5 list of easy to grow flowers just crying out to be planted in autumn.
Gardening is really just observing and noticing… what works and doesn’t.
Over the past few years I’ve noticed these 3 cold hardy annuals flowers, when let to go to seed, sprout in the late Fall and very reliably overwinter without cover and grow into healthy robust flowers in late Spring. One less thing to seed because nature handles it for me!
1. Feverfew
2. Ammi “Dara”
3. Nigella/“Love in a Mist”

Love-in-the-mist (Nigella damascena) spotted brightening up a small fence-line verge and instantly making my day 🩵
One of my favourite annuals for its feathery foliage and soft floating blooms in shades of blue and purple. They thrive in full sun and free-draining soils, and will often self-seed, creating effortless seasonal displays. Even after flowering, the seed pods remain adding ongoing structure and interest!
A perfect reminder of how simple verge plantings can deliver beautiful, pollinator-friendly moments in everyday spaces.
Which colours would you keep in the breeding hen pool for next years seed collection?

Anemones are here!!#flowerlovers #albanyfarmersmarket #anemoneflowers
I’m starting to plant out cold hardy seedlings 🌱 and watching the anemones and ranunculus get so close to blooming! I’ve had almost all sweet pea seeds sprout- just waiting on shell pink 💕 #sweetpeas #cutflowergarden #anemoneflower #icelandicpoppies
These are speciality daffodils and scented narcissi—
grown for their shape, scent, and character… not uniformity.
Each variety is a little different, and the season is short (especially with this warm weather).
Once they’re gone, they’re gone - then you’ll have to wait another year to see them again!
