Finally eating Istanbul’s famous Balık Dürüm 🌯
Ohhhhhh this was divine grrrrrr! Smokey, hot, oily fish (usually mackerel) with sharp bitey onions, fresh greens all in a soft slightly charred flatbread. Acidity is so perfect - tanginess from the sumac-heavy spice mix and pomegranate molasses makes this suuuuper mouthwatering UGH!!
So this is related to balık ekmek which comes in a chunky bread roll, but the lavaş here is thinner and makes for a more fish-forward, less bready experience. Arguably the better eating format!
There’s a couple of famous spots but these guys do it the sauciest - highly recommend 📍 Meşhur Karaköy Balık Dürümcüsü Azat Usta - which is just a 2 minute walk from Karaköy tram station! @azatusta_balikdurum_karakoy
