Hardcore Jollies — Funkadelic (1976) Label: Warner Bros. Genre: Funk • Funk Rock • Psychedelic Funk Before funk got cleaned up, Funkadelic was out here making records that sounded like acid rock, gospel, street poetry, and outer space all colliding at once. Hardcore Jollies was Funkadelic’s first major label album, and it still sounds completely unbothered by rules. Raw guitars. Weird humor. Deep grooves. Total George Clinton chaos. Fun facts: This album was dedicated to the guitar players of the world. It features a live version of “Cosmic Slop”. It hit #12 R&B and #96 pop on Billboard. The wild cover art is tied to Pedro Bell, one of the defining visual architects of P Funk. Deep cut: “If You Got Funk, You Got Style” Len’s take: This is the sound of a band refusing to behave. Not polished. Not safe. Not built for algorithms. Just pure freaked out freedom. Hardcore Jollies is what happens when funk decides it wants to bite back. #recordoftheday #funkadelic #hardcorejollies georgeclinton pfunk vinylcommunity vinylcollector 70sfunk nowspinning funkrock
“Atomic Dog” wasn’t just a song… it was a blueprint. That sound influenced generations. 🎙️ The NomadCast®
The album artwork for Funkadelic’s Maggot Brain is a brilliant study in beauty, pain and resilience. Featuring Barbara Cheeseborough, the model seen on the very first issue of Essence magazine, this cover is a masterful example of how to create an era-defining image. Welcome to part 7 of my Cover Story series where I dive into a single image taken from album artworks featuring some of the boldest women from the past, present and future. #creativeart #albumartwork #albumcover #funkadelic

Funk Songs to Jam ✌️Part 58 Parliament- Aquaboogie (A Psychoalphadiscobetaaquadoloop) Aquaboogie (A Psychoalphadiscobetaaquadoloop) by Parliament is pure funk electricity. This track is a deep dive into the wild, cosmic groove universe that only George Clinton could create. The bassline is hypnotic, the rhythm is unstoppable, and the layered vocals feel like a funky underwater party in another dimension. It’s playful, weird in the best way, and totally liberating—encouraging you to let go, move your body, and “dance underwater without getting wet.” The song blends funk, psychedelia, and disco into one unstoppable groove that never lets up. This isn’t just a song—it’s a vibe, a mindset, and a portal into peak P-Funk creativity. Perfect for anyone who loves deep grooves, bold originality, and music that refuses to follow rules. That time opening up for @ogafroman — true story: my ride or die friends from Gville @msdeltabrisket and @ronetheridge1 use to perform with Afroman back in Hattiesburg when he was starting to tour. They went by Afroman and the Medicine Band. #loudroots
Funk legend George Clinton sits down for a wide-ranging conversation about his life in music — from his days as a barber in New Jersey to building the Parliament-Funkadelic empire, celebrating 50+ years of funk, and performing at the opera house with "long tails" for the first time. George shares the philosophy that's kept him relevant across decades: "If it gets on your nerve, that's the next thing." He breaks down how he spotted Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Rihanna before the world caught on, reflects on Motown's untold history, and talks about the art, imagery, and storytelling that made funk culture so iconic — from Pedro Bell's album covers to Atomic Dog still hitting like it came out yesterday. Plus: why he's not afraid of AI, and what it means to have a spaceship in the Smithsonian.
